The chance is high. The frequency is not as high. The results are not as bad as everyone imagines them to be.
I had one dog about 15 years ago that had been bit so much he was about immune to the bite. He would swell up real bad, once I thought he was dead when I put him in the box. But the next day he was ready to go again. Most dogs it takes two or three days to recover. Now I am talking Cotton Mouths not rattle snakes. They are a different story. But Cotton Mouths are the biggest problem. Right now we have the situation that makes you worry some more. We are coming into a cycle where the woods are drying up. We have had about 80% of the swamps covered in water. Now it is back to about 25%. That means 100% of the snakes are now in those wet spots which which concentrates them. LOL Come to Fl. I know you would enjoy it.

Biggest thing from the bite is infection and rotting of the flesh where the snake bites. Some good antibiotics is what I treat them with.

I was in Jacksonville, Fla back in the late 60's and my cousin lived in Sarasota. I saw tons of coons on the back roads and tourist road stops, but never wanted to hunt in that country, mostly pines and palmettos. My Aunt bought a winter home in Ocala, Fla and I loved the country around Ocala, mostly Oaks. Dave

I never even knew the site was down.

Bruce, I had a guy come to the shop the other day and was amazed that all of my dogs were just setting on the box. No barking, no pen pacing, but I'm particular about a pup and pick up on the stupid ones pretty early. They all go live at my partners house. Lol

Dave, I am about 60 miles NE of Ocala and 60 miles S. of Jacksonville. We have such a mixture of timber and it is all due to the land elevation. On an acre of land you can have the Oaks which are high ground trees. Pines and Palmettos which are typically high ground vegetation and Cypress trees which are in water. Oaks are not as common here as in Ocala. But we have our share of them.
Thing is, when someone ask where the coon are at. I tell them to look across the landscape. Turn your dogs out and they will end up in the worse spot of woods you have with the thickest vegetation you have. Just got to love it. Do tree in some oaks when the acorns are in. Generally so thick around them you can't see up them real well.

Joey a man just has to love a smart pup.
