They don't have to be special. They have to be solid and get on a big roll at exactly the right time.
I think a few like Mr Clean are just dominating types of dogs but I also think most of them are just getting everything going on the right weekend.

D. Brothers

When I was kid the guy that got me started hunting hunting was pushing a real nice English female named red river sassy . I used sit n listen to him tell me about all his hunts from the previous weekend. Seemed like every other weekend he would draw mr. Brothers . Correct me if I’m wrong but I think he was hunting maybe Sarah? Regardless he knew he had a battle on his hands. He always had nothing but good things to say about his hounds. Just brought back some memories. Haven’t thought about that in a long time.

I got in the final 3 two years ago in Georgia during the rehunt mess with Shack and then last year Willy beat my in the 4th round and I ended up 5th with Demon. They are 2 very very different dogs in the way they operate. Right now we have one that trees just as many coons as the others and he’s a different style then both of them. It doesn’t matter how they operate they just need to be the best at whatever there style is. I plan on winning the stupid thing before I turn 30 so that gives me 5 more years to catch the break I need.

Janice had more drive than any dog ive ever hunted.
She would fly in the country from dusk to dawn with one thing on her mind. Tree a coon.

When hunted right she would get on those rolls where she was as perfect as a dog can get. She got on one of those rolls at the right time in 2007.

She was just a dog and could look stupid at times especialy around her heat cycles.
She was a quirky type that wouldn't operate for anyone but me.She loved me and tried very hard to please me and she knew what that was.

And that is about as honest a description as anyone will ever make about their dog.

What a great, honest description of hound that won a World Championship. Two things you described there are what I look for in a dog, number one being drive. A dog that has drive will always give you everything they have. And one that wants to please you. But as you said, getting on the right roll at the right time is huge.

Bred and raised and trained her, she was treeing her own coons at 6 1/2 months old, independent and liked to be by herself naturally and had the meat when she got treed.

Luke, who owned the Sassy female ? I can't remember what I was hunting at that time, do you know what yr it was.

Dick it was terry gerber from Monroeville. That’s where I grew up. I believe him n Abe Gerardot owened her at the time. Sassy was a tri colored bitch. Him n her r the reason I still hunt English dogs today. I’m not sure what year it was I would have been probably 12 or 13 at the time. I might b wrong but I’m pretty sure it was Sarah. My whole point to my trip down memory lane was of all the guys hunting around here ur dogs r what stuck in my mind of always being in the magazine in the winners circle. Funny what memories stick in ur mind 25 years later
