Seriously, I hope you guys find a special dog, if anyone can you all will. I know of one , but he isn't for sale or I would own him. Best of luck to you guys. Dave

It’s been a while since we been in the game. I would love to find another English female about 3 like ole granny. Had someone tell me the other day I might just have to settle for a walker. I just asked him well who’s got a good one? He got quite for about 10 seconds and I just started laughing. Good luck in your search. But if I knew where a good anything was I wouldn’t tell you I would by it.

There's one in your vicinity that can't get bought!

This is why the bell curve is very small at the top end........as you get closer to the top the tighter the criteria become in order to make it there. I think its that way with most anything.

I know where one is but he is 10 or 11yrs old and will still wear you out , I have hunted with a bunch of so called coon dogs but he is the only one I have seen in past 10 years and I have tried to buy him every year but this one. Most people have a dog that can tree a few coons a night now marv, but those dogs could not tree 1 coon 15 years ago like some of those good ones could .70s early 80s coon dogs mid 80s to late 90s mean dogs that ran junk and got treed , late 90s till now slick treeing thyroid dogs but not as mean as the late 90s and too lazy to run junk

After years of hunting in the hunts and the pleasure woods I've made the simple conclusion that separates greatness to averageness is this.... some may agree some may not.

Having a dog look to tree a coon as fast as possible everytime you unsnap it in the pleasure woods and taking that same dog and throw it with 3 strange dogs all over the country and it pays zero attention to them still looking to tree a coon as fast as it can.

That's very strange as you hunted with the Meltdown, I'd say time to get another hobby Ol Hoss cause I doubt they'll ever be one nicer then him.

Hunted with him many times. I’m not taking nothing away from him. He was a pretty decent outfit and a REAL WINNER, I’m just picky!! Extremely picky!! Wife calls it IMPOSSIBLE. LOL
There are certain things that I just can’t tolerate. Barking at air is one of them, another is I live and die by it. 100 on the tree!! For no reason should I back for 25!! I know it’s won a bunch and will continue to win if they know when to do it but I NEVER want one to do that. And he would bark at the air in every cast and slip in for 75,50,25 and that helped him to be the biggest winner of all time. Please don’t get your panties in a wad cause these are facts. I am friends with the guy that made him and the guy that owned him when he died. But the truth is the truth and I tell it. I’ve had the opportunity to hunt with several decent dogs but that’s exactly what they are. DOGS!!! They make mistakes, some a lot more than others

I drew meltdown 2 times he got struck for 100 both times came back to bam and covered him 2 times and won with more plus’s strike points I would not call that a coon dog but he was a winner

Always the same people that tell the rest of us What We Have Never Seen or What We Have Never Hunted With therefore we don’t have a clue what a Real Coon Dog is!
So my question is Why don’t you Tell us who these Real Coon Dogs are that you set such high standards by that the rest of the world has Never and Will never see?

Tim we just got a failure to communicate!! The 25 yr olds are trying to tell us what we did 35 yrs ago lol. Now then my explanation we had strickter rules , bigger numbers to beat , and longer hunt times so it seems to me you had to have a dog that did not make many mistakes or am I wrong.

It’s not the rules I’m talking about, it’s the people that get on here Everyday and tell the rest of us that we have Never Seen/Owned or even hunted with a tru Track to Tree coon dog, so my question is where and what are the names of these Great “Set my Standards by” coon dogs that only a few people have seen?

P.S, longer hunt time gave you time to get back on top if you had the dog power, in a one hour hunt you pull minus you done, but don’t sweet it just go have a cup of coffee and try again next hour.

The thing about finding a coon dog is seeing it night after night. None are perfect, the best I have seen had nights that if I didn't know them I would think they were junk. Getting glimpses of a dog in a couple of hunts does't give us enough info to judge them good or bad.

Tar the longer hunts sometimes let the better dog come out and sometimes it just gave them a opportunity to make up for the first hour they spent screwing up. There is at least one world champions from back then that wouldn't have stood a chance in these shorter hunts because they wouldn't of had time to swap off the junk and come back.

I mentioned houses lawyer out of all of them I liked him even better than his daddy. I don't think his daddy could beat him. Last time I drew him I think it was at Waco tx. He had a big hole in his leg with goop ooooosing out and that sucker never quit never let up and put on a coon treeing clinic. He just was in his daddy's shadow I guess.

there are still some good hounds out there but it all depends on what type u looking for. And also how much money you willing to spend. The days of buying a good to fair dog for 500 to 1k is all but over. I know were there is a 15month old walker pup out of power ranger that is very nice dead loner an has coons 80% of the time, but I no a man who went an tried him one night the pup treed 5 singles in the big woods in Tennesse an all was wild coons but couldn't buy him. the guy offered 10k for him. so to shorten the story it all about what you willing to pay for one an if u are willing there are still some real nice dogs out there.

You can hunt this country from coast to coast and all points inbetween and be lucky to see a handful of top shelf hounds.
Many are they that claim to have one . Very few do.

Wish I had one. Or knew where one was.

I've spent my life looking for that hound with superior ability. I made trips and hunted with the majority of the bragged about bloodlines of the 70s and 80s and although they were nice dogs NONE of them out performed the Michelob that I was hauling around for a measuring stick. I was too young, green and believed what I read plus what my elders told me as gospel.

So who has the dogs with superior ability that will put them in the woods? I have an unfinished 2 year yardstick that I'd like to bring along for comparison. Please don't waste my time if you have an aggressive dog.
I learned along time ago that if someone comes to hunt with your dog and doesn't bring a dog to hunt that they have already made up their mind of what they are going to see before the hunt and are just wasting your time. I'd like to hunt with them after Marv does as I wouldn't want to cause interference. Ken Risley 608-558-4640

I had a direct female out of Stylish Lipper, at the zones she was dominating the cast, next to last tree she hit a stump an ripped her from the collar hafe way down her leg with 12 min left in the hunt, they said looks like you will need to with draw cause we gonna cut loose, I duck taped her up an cut her loose she 1st an 2nd on another coon, she had more heart than any dog iv ever owned, took 22 stitches to sow her up. She set my standards.

^^^Very good comment ! and all depends on the owner of the dog too ... if someone else owned him that guy may not sell him for no less than 20.... ?
Dogs are no different than shooting big bucks....Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
