Ratdog, you would be a little safer on a tricycle.

Better yet, use a dog sled.

Funny u should say that. When my daughter was little...(like 30 years ago) I thought i was smart and hooked a couple dogs to the sled that had her in it and was goin up the road when they somehow got away from me and headed across the hay field straight for the woods full speed.Ended up ok , but wife was not real impressed.

I used to ride one around a Levee that I hunted, it had a road around all 4 sides that was a mile each way. It was closed to trucks and four wheelers, I would cast the dog and ride down one side, would get as close to the treed dog and go get em.

When I headed back to truck I would take the dog lead and hold in my fingers and put that hand behind the handle on one side of the bike and the dog would pull me back to the truck.

Always hoped a coon didn't run out in front of the dog.

Some times when I squirrel hunt, I will take my mountain bike and leave it where I plan to come out of the woods and then ride it back to the truck. The dogs just run in front with no problem. But it was a real adventure when I agreed to take care of my marine neighbors husky. I took it was his walk while I rode my bike. It was all I could do to stay on the bike and hold on to the lease. When it was time to go he went and I had better
be planted on the seat or I would find myself on the ground.

I don't ride my horse hunting at night, but I'll take one of the dogs trail riding with me during the day. We haven't been hunting much because of health problems and Ruby had puppies so to exercise them, we put their tracking collars on them and dump them out on a dead end ANF Rd, they run 3 - 6 miles. I worked with a guy yrs ago that tried selling me a mule that was used for coonhunting. I was a lot younger and liked walking. I rode my horse this year to check traps a few days, had some icy roads. I think it would be really hard to park a trailer where we coon hunt.
