(1) Do you receive, or pay into Social Security? If so, you are a practicing socialist.
(2) Do you receive, or pay into Medicare? If so, you are a practicing socialist.
(3) Do you travel on public highways without paying a toll? If so, you are a practicing socialist.
(4) Did you attend a public school, or send your kids to a public school? If so, you have been or are a practicing socialist.
(5) Mail service, public utilities, telephone/internet services are regulated. That's a socialistic concept. If you get these, you are a practicing socialist.

Am I a Socialist??? Well, (1) I do pay Social Security (not collecting yet), (2) I do pay Medicare (not collecting yet), (3) I do travel on public highways, (4) I did attend a public school, and my kids are in one now, (5) I do have mail service, some public utilities, and telephone/internet.

If the above applies to you, you are a Socialist (believe it or not).

I even pay taxes to support our military. But, it's not specifically for me! Socialism?

No it does not make you a socialist.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/socialism believing in the eradication of capitalism would make one a socialist. Believing in the eliminatination of private property and giving that property over to the state would make one a socialist. Believing the elimination of class making all equal would make one a socialist.
The Democratic Socialist of America have a vision for our future that involves all the above and it involves a ground up method to do so. Yes, government ran programs are a part of the plan but only a beginning and paying into a plan then later benefiting from it is not socialism, hence at this time those who pay into social security reap more benefits than those who do not. Socialism would involve all being eligible for the same benefits, doctors, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, all supplies equipment ect being controlled by the state along with the complete elimination of privatization of any of the above above. Complete iradication of all privatised companies and given over to state control.
Here is an article from the DSOA website that I would encourage a you all to read especially those who may lean left, maybe it fits with your idea for the future of our country maybe it goes to far. Most do not realise how far their end game goal is. Another good read is the Cloward Piven strategy.
So many lefties see only the picture that labor unions and those pushing for a greater tax on wealthy but fail to see the full picture of what those pushing for this agenda truly want implemented.
Are you willing to give up all that you have worked for including your private property for the "greater good", are you willing to give up your children's and grandchildren's ability to start their own company and future success? The end game is not taxing the rich more it is the elimination of everyone's ability to own privately and their sucess from doing so. The end game is equality for all regardless of their personal contributions. The end game is giving all personal property over to the state. The end game is the complete eradication of all forms of capitalism. The end game has zero to do with taxes. Under our current system of government taxes are the language people speak and the only way for them to begin as long as private property is held. The end game is a collapse of this so that the true socialism can be achieved. All for the greater good of the people lol. Are you going to get in line for your equal pay, equal housing, equal medical care, equal food distribution though you may work harder than your neighbor? Are you going to give up your companies and your ideas for inventions to subsidize those who do nothing? These people have a grandiose idea of all working for all but human nature doesn't work that way and never will. The pilgrims had a try at socialism in their new colony. It took them a very short time to realise work by a few wouldn't feed them all.

My biggest fear is that too many follow blindly thinking some of their most advertised ideas sound good. Just like was mentioned here "we are all socialist" because of public schools, Medicare and Social security. Essentially we have nothing to fear and why do we make such a big deal out of fighting it. If more would actually educate themselves as to the true facts as to what the end game entails they may think twice before supporting many of these candidates. When something sounds to good to be true it probably is especially if you don't have to do the work to get it.

Pure Socialism does not exist in this world. Nor, can it. It just doesn't match up with human nature. If you put 10 or 50 people together, they won't be all equal. Somebody is going to have to lead the group. There could be a conflict/battle as to who will lead (which defeats the socialist concept).

Pure Capitalism can not exist in a democracy. In pure Capitalism there would be no public services or social programs. Everybody would be at the mercy of the Capitalists. In pure Capitalism, there are no worker rights and benefits that the Capitalist does not grant you.

The reality is that the United States, and pretty much everyone else in the world is some mixture of the two (Socialism and Capitalism) to varying degrees.

In true Capitalism, there are no worker age restrictions. There is no minimum wage. There is no overtime pay. There are no social or public programs. There are no safety rules.

We, the United States (and pretty much everyone else), are a blend of these two systems. Again, the degrees vary. I support the working class of America (that includes almost all of us). I know that we also have a non-working class that mooch off the system (different topic---I don't want to go into my opinion on slackers, bums, and moochers --- they just PO me).

Re: Your Union Comment. I have never been in a Union, but I fully support Union Members. Rights that they have fought for and achieved have benefited the rest of us!!!

To make it perfectly clear. I am not a union member (have joined ancillary). But, my ancestors (and some friends) are/were, and fought for worker rights. Without them, I would not be where I am today. Kudo's to the working class that stood up for the working class, and are still doing it!!!

I'm proud to be a "Working Class American", and proud of those that made it possible for "Working Class Americans" to live a good life. Without them, I'd be in servitude, and so would you (most likely).

Thank you to the working class Americans (Union Members and others) that have stood up for themselves (and us in the process).

As they say, " That's my story, and I'm sticking to it". I will always support the working class (as that's what I am and came from).

You can disagree with me supporting working class Americans and Unions. But, you won't change my mind nor my commitment to the working class of America (I am that, and stand by it!).

My info I posted came straight from the Democratic Socialist of America website of which Ms. Cortez is a member and which Obama once was also. And we have Burnie socialist/communist running for president. You stated that anyone that was participated in certain programs was a socialist and that is not true. I stated facts of the definition and what their end goal was. They do want the demise of capitalism in the US and do wish for state control of all which they know cannot be achieved in one bold move but by baby steps. This is not your party of the working man that the Democrat party once was known for it has been taken over by those with a much bigger agenda.
Also, my union remark was not just posted to you there are several on here and others that read. I still urge you and others to read the article I posted the link to if you have not already and to read the Cloward/Piven strategy if you or anyone else that has not ever did so.

What angers me about socialist point of views.

I work hard ,scrimp and save ,eat beans and wieners so I can buy the things I want in life. Drive a nice car and own a nice house. But I did without a lot of things to achieve this.
Along come the crying whiners and say how dare you .Mean time they eat steaks they can afford because of free hand outs from food banks ,food stamps,and do nothing to contribute to society, Collect welfare and get free health care.
Then I get told I need to pay my fair share to drag these people out of poverty that could care less about working because everything is handed to them. I SAY BULL CRAP!!!
I worked for it ,Did without to get where I am and dang gone I will not give it away to lazy do nothings for free.

Here is a true story that actually happened:
The government had this back to work program for hard core welfare unemployable people.
There were some that got hired into this factory.Yearly salary was around 30,000 a year.This was some time
ago but even now is not bad wages.
Anyway come pay day this guy that was part of this group just got his first 2 week pay check.
He is standing there staring at it. The foreman notices him. Goes up and asks if there was something wrong.
Guy replies yeah. What is all this stuff. He points to social security taxes. Foreman says that is so you can collect retirement in old age. He points to federal and state taxes. Foreman explained about paying taxes on income. He points to all the other taxes and deductions and foreman continues to explain what they were for.
The guy looks at the foreman and says "BULLS*** THEY DON'T TAKE THIS STUFF OUT OF MY WELFARE CHECK. I QUIT!!" and walked out.
I swear this is a 100% fact true story .

Democracy has served us well. We don't need a dictatorship or royal family.

We do not have a democracy but rather a Representative Republic. You could call it loosely a Democratic Republic but a democracy we are not.

We are a confederation of States. The Federal govt. has no business feeding or providing healthcare for people. That is the States job if they so choose. The Federal govt has no business in the class room or the church. The feds should stick to Defense, interstate transportation and immigration. everything else should be handled locally.
