My leading by example is coming prepared and showing the younger generation how to take care of themselves! I’m a sportsman and will find their coon, help get their dog, if their light breaks I will loan them a light or shine mine to get them out the woods. If someone is trying to cheat them I will do my best to prevent that from happening. If their truck breaks down I will help fix it or give them a ride. I am more than happy to help anyone trying to help themselves.

Jen, if cast were like you have suggested I would sure hunt in them but as it is I just don't want the hassle. Maybe it's partly my fault because I stay home and don't go. I love to hunt with other people and dogs but wind up hunting a lot by myself. Have been hunting with Chuck Allen some and it has been a lot of fun. Thanks Chuck. Jen keep up the good work.

Kenneth good sportsmanship is not about entitlement (I am anti socialism as anybody). Sometimes people's equipment quits or I doubt there is one on here that has gone to alot of hunts that hasn't forgot something at some point and time, if you haven't then your more perfect than most. I agree that our youth need to be tought responsibility but they also need to be taught to do the right thing, helping out your fellow hunters is not your responsibility but is usually the right thing to do.
I posed a question to those who refuse rides if they accept the ride back to their own truck when the hunt is over. I already know the answer they pile in someone else's truck or get on the tailgate. They accept it when it is a convience for them but won't go out of their way to help someone else out, a double standard they think nothing about. Let's turn it around. I quite often go with my husband to hunts and am the one driving around to pick a cast up when it's over. Do I have to, no. I can promise you I have never encountered an grateful hunter yet. How would it look and what would these very same men think when they are 3 miles from their trucks and I picked up only my husband and left the rest of the cast in the road to walk after a long night with a deadline to meet?
I started this post for people to post examples of good sportsmanship.
If you or anyone else has anything positive to post as examples feel free to.

Again, go back and read my post. Helping some that has failed equipment and forgotten something is one thing. But, helping someone that intentionally didn’t get something is another. He intentionally left his truck home to same money and expects the guide to drive THREE HOURS out of his way and calls him an UNSPORTSMANLIKE JERK for telling him he wasn’t coming back to the grounds if he lost. He is wanting someone to spend the same money he was trying to save. I would also add that he was there handling someone else’s dog ho was probably paying his way. While the guide was there hunting his own dog that he bought and trained while paying his own way.

In your scenario you are talking about 3 miles out of your way. 😂 In real life we are talking about 150 miles.

Do you not see the difference?

Also, the guide is not the one on every social media site running down the hunts and guides. All of this because someone chose to bum a ride and expects that people should go out of their way to help him inconvenience them. Really? 🙄

My arguement on the thread related to yout post was to those that refuse rides some apparently never let anyone in their truck but as I also stated will jump right in when offered that ride sy the end of the night when it's convenient to them. If you are one that never allows a fellow hunter a ride (I would hope you are not) you need to reevaluate your idea of what good sportsmanship is.
Again this thread is about sportsmanship if you have anything positive to add feel free other wise make start your own if you have something that needs addressed or you would like to discuss.

Jennifer there is a generation gap on sportsmanship. Your boy knows what dad and mom will do if he don't conduct himself accordingly. As well as Corey does with me. These kids need role models.

That boy got popped on the back of often and knows I'll still do it and sometimes do. He started playing sports at 4 yrs old and knew a certain behavior was expected win, loose or draw.
A person can be extremely competitive and successful at whatever they do but can still be a good example to others, there are many in this sport that still are and thankfully the others are still a minority. Maybe with a little nudging they will someday come around to have a better attitude and set a good example for others to follow. As for their excuses you know how the saying goes they are like @ holes everyone's got one and they all stink.
On that note Tim good idea to stick Ol' Tar in the back of the truck being a good sport can only go so far.

RESPECT. My parents both passed away in 1984 of heart attack. I am as afraid of them today as I was then. RESPECTFULLY. My brother and I still visit the graves with tears. So being kind and thoughtful does'nt cost anything. could be a generation thing.

I will just brag on my son came over and fixed my pickup after he got off work last night. Ordered me a fuel pump on line cost me $50. Instead of $370 at the parts store plus labor about $650 he saved me. Tried to feed ,him give some money he just give me a bear hug and told me he loved me.

Ahh and life is good! Mine called me when he got off work at midnight. Hardly a day goes by that we don't talk to all three of them. They aren't perfect but somewhere along the way we did something right.

I've got 2 more these pertain to guides.
#1 You do not have to drive the same speed on dirt roads as you do the highways lol.
#2 Let those who you are guiding know about the terrain they will be hunting along with any other important info or obstacles they may encounter. Not much worse than nearly walking a cliff and a human chain dragging you up with dog leashes.

No Problem buddy , likewise I too have enjoyed hunting with you and Preacher and more importantly enjoying the fellowship ! we do pretty good with our possum dogs . Gary and I treed 2 , took 1 at the Western Wall tonight , got lucky never walked more than 200 yds from the truck. We had to get Chomper out of the 2nd tree walking in there it looked like the other dogs had him treed at first funny has heck. Don't know what got into that old dog , I told Gary he needs to stop giving him Geritol and Viagra cocktails . LOL
