go to youtube and look for, Good-bye My Lady with Walter Brennen, produced in 1956. I was in the 3rd grade then. Good story and depicts a culture long lost.

Another good hound movie is The voice of Bugle ann. Walt Disney made a couple of Big Red movies.
Panicked at school when they showed it in third grade because I was afraid I'd cry in front of my buddies.
I'll bet every boy in the class cried right along with ya...I know I did

The second version I could barely finish watching the movie...the original version I have seen many times...
Old yeller is the only other dog movie that comes close or equals where the red fern grows...IMO

Red Fern
Dang, I just had to go and watch this movie again, after all these years, it still made me sad. Above and beyond the sadness there were some important life lessons in this movie. Things certainly mean more to oneself, when you have to work for them. Honor and character lasts way beyond our successes in life. Excellent movie. Dave
