quote:Totally Agree , I " used to " have feeders out for a nite hunt whether if it's for me or guiding for someone else . More buckets more coons more chance of a 1st place . Then that dog comes back with a tremendous score . While ole So and So treed one in a cut over and swam the river but had the one and only coon . Then back at the clubhouse all thinks the big score dog is the best , lol .

I voted yes. Not embarrasssed one bit. I think that the dog that wins his cast in tough woods grubbing out a coon or 2 winning his cast is every bit as deserving of a win than the dog that scored on 6 coon off 6 coon feeders. Seems it'd be embarrasing to disagree with that.

Let’s just give everyone 5 participation trophy for showing up and then get your GrNtCh title, suck it up work harder, go to a different club, get a better dog, do what you have to do to get your 5 NtCh wins like So Many Have before you and stop trying to change things to suit you and your dog.

One more thing it would do is take away the need for a big score and make some folks a little more honest. If you only need to beat the dogs in your cast it completely changes how the game is played. It also does away with the need to drop and move 5 times in a cast.
Or we can change nothing and keep doing what we are doing until we are done.

change it back to a three hour hunt and I am hiring a handler
GRNTCH
No. keep it the same. We need to add another level above GRNTCH.
Have all Grand casts. For each GRNT plus point cast win, add a number to the title. So a dog can achieve a title of GRNTCH 10 or GNTCH 20.
To get in this game you'll have to make them a GRNTCH as it is now. Then every cast win with plus points gets you something.

You think hunt numbers are down now and "nothing for a Grand Nite to do". Wait till you hand out a Ntch win for simply winning your cast with plus points. It would take no time at all to finish a dog out to Grand Nite. Once that is done there wont be near as many dogs in the local hunts because they will all be finished out. Not every hunter out there has the time, money, or desire to get another dog to hunt as soon as the ones they are hunting become finished out. At a local hunt with 2 cast these days there is not way you should want 2 Ntch wins handed out.
maybe to level the playing field we need to just draw all the nt ch dogs out together up to 10 dogs instead of 4 dog casts.
All BS put to the side, I apologize if I offended anyone. I would like to have 2 NtCh Places at the local hunts if we have 5 NtCh cast, I believe it would bring more NtCh dogs, maybe even go with 4 NtCh cast, They do 2 Places at the big or pre entry hunts but don’t pay Performance.
tim at one time i wouldn't have wanted to see things change but they really need to do something.
They need to do something for us old folks like buggy hunts or free buffets at all the hunts and senior citizen discounts on entry's and paper work that's it I am going hunting and this all better be straitened out when I get home or else lol.

If you think your going to get rich of the money hunts think again been there done that not happening. So paying money is not the answer either. Go to a pkc hunt pay $30.00 for entry $25.00 for gas win $52.50 yea thats makein money.

BIG NO
I had 13 Nt Ch. Cast wins on My Old Sue Female. She Died A Nt.Ch That GR.Nt.CH tidal did not do anything for her or myself. Now it would Have Brought more Fame to her Mother though. That doesn't say much there anyway.

Not much a person can do to make a person want to coon hunt or join a club that they have no interest in. There are a handful of guys that go to the hunts around here that are all pretty much in the same age group when this group is done we are in big trouble around here.
I hear about the ole this dog had to grub out 2 old feeder tracks, while this dog went the feeders. Fact of the matter is, just as often a dog will draw a good spot and only tree 2 coons and the cast seen many sitting up while another cast may tree 3. The only three seen.
Comparing UKC to the open event money hunts is mind boggling. I don't think your big winners go to just get a CW. They go to get in the final four for the bigger pay day. I know the few I go to I do.
quote:That's what I've been saying too . Lot of factors plays into "the dying sport" . People getting older and caint do what they use to do and not as many to carry the torch . Some states don't see this issue but in the southern states it's noticeable . Then losing places to hunt don't help either . People ain't gonna drive to a hunt and spend money when they hear club members begging for a guide and then go out and don't get after a coon unless it's a mile away . Then you gotta past 1/2 dozen houses people yelling at you . Timber getting cut , deer hunters hate dogs too . It's a combination of several things . There's a few clubs here close don't have no hunts cause of lack of membership participation. If you caint put on a good club then how do expect to have good participation. It takes a good hard working dedicated folks to do so not just a couple . But it's hard to do without help . There's a lot of reasons not just one the reasons it's fading . Wether you admit it or not cause numbers don't lie .

This is of the subject a little but coon hunting use to be a good ol country boys past time didn't have to have a Dr. or lawyer income to be able to afford this sport. Now days the price of a decent dog that a person feels like it can win some hunts with most workin men can't afford then you need a tracking system to keep your investment safe. then you have lights, trucks, dog boxes and all the other things that go along with it. Most folks just don't have the funds to invest in this sport when most of the time there is no return on all your investments. Back in the 80's when I remember 60 to 80 dogs being at a coon hunt the coon hides where high and a person could make a decent wage of a season kill to justify the expense now days you just have to love it to stay with it. This sport if you think about it is very expensive might have something to do with people not getting involved.
