-- What separates the winners in comp hunts from the losers? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928499100)

Genetics vs Environment. We get it mixed up all the time. If a dog averages 4 or more competition hunts per month, it BETTER do some winning !!

I mentioned it long ago that UKC should have some type of record keeping system that allows the public to know how many hunts it took a dog to earn a degree. Put it out there for the consumer to see . Everybody acted like It was crazy. Would it be valuable to anybody to know if a dog made Grande Nite Champion in 15 hunts or 85 hunts ?

I like this idea but include total cast wins... grand can be hard to get. a,ll you can do is win your cast and hope it is enough

Right. Make sure it includes it all. All the info.

How you going to include all the info ? Are they babblers , are they rough , percentage of trees +-or - , won't go alone etc... If you're breeding based on winners only I don't want none. That's why I think the top reproducers list is a joke.
The last dog I comp hunted was 0 for 2 and I clearly was hunting the only coon dog on either cast. I wasn't the only cast member to say so either.
From my experience I'd also like to see how many times the handler carried the score card. They work the crap out of the watch if your dog is the only one treed or struck but wait 10 minutes to start the clock on their dog. .Sure you can raise a fuss and make them ( you have to go by their watch) but who enjoys that kind of crap? I remember having fun at hunts and seeing who has the better coon dog.

Yep...I have read many posts on here about having so many culls in the competition dogs...keeping the stats you are talking about will be a big step in improving competition bred dogs...the average Breeder wanting to breed to a grand night champion would breed to the dog that won in 15 and not 85 hunts...a no brainer...

But those folks that have plenty of money and care more about winning than improving the breed in general wouldn’t want to change this rule...

The rules need to be fixed where a handler can not improve his chances of winning by cheating...but win because of his dog handling abilities and having a good dog in the hunt...improve/fix the system and the dogs will follow suit...
