Patrick

The problem with titles is that the majority of the titles are made at the local club level. Most, if not all Clubs these day hunt off feeders, so making a champion under those conditions does not mean a lot. Ukc does not have any control , or oversight to control such behavior. Small turnouts and easy coons have diminished the true value of Champion titles. Nuff said! Dave

Sure glad I have plenty of coon. I have never put feed out for coon. When coon are moving hounds don't have to go deep to strike. Makes it hard to minus those handlers that strike on a babble.

Dave, i got a nickle that sayz ya dont know much about hunting a dog in winter conditions in Tennessee, also if ya are setting up hunts based on a buncha feeder buckets thats just another issue that mis communicates a dogs titles and hunting capabilities.
Getting right back to the guy saying he kniws of gr nt champs that cant tree a coon let alone hunt over a 100 yds away....
Im not sure if u are insinuating tht im not a " real coonhunter "....in yer post.....if thats what it takes these dayz id guess aint nobody up this way mucha coonhunter cuz i dint hear much of guys feedin coons so there dog can tree one 50 yds from the truck....funny

I know where a GrNtCh dog is that Can, Has, and will tree coon in Front, Behind or With any dog! I know Where a Pr dog is that can’t tree a coon unless you drop him with a dog that can tree coon. Just saying.

The Nite Champion points system needs changed. With hunt numbers down the title is simply to easily obtained. 3-5 hunt wins instead of just winning a cast would be more suitable and make the title have more value.

Patrick

My comments were not directed at you, but were just stating the facts. My hunting partner and myself tree our share ofthe coons all winter long. You have an invitation to come down and see for yourself, I will pay your expenses, if we can not show you coons any night! Our winters are not on par with Wisc. Winters (thank God ), but it is winter and single digit temps, frozen ground, and snow. Dave

Still won't help with most local hunts there is a average of 4 to 6 cast of registered hounds. Ukc says to make a dog night champion the dog must have a 1st place win and a total of 100 championship points. So the 1st place win is 40 points. 4) 6th place wins is another 60 pointso ( 15x4=60) there you have the night champion in 5 hunts. Still doesn't show the dog will hunt and tree coon by itself. Titles are great but I follow the show me method not saying the dog is or isn't what the person/ title is claiming the dog to be. But dogs are just like anything else there's different styles for different people. Heck if you listen to social media you better go grab the untitled hound cause the nite hunts are full of cheaters. I'm not saying there isn't some cheating but come on isn't there a possibility that someone was packing a better hound that night or luck was on their side or that we have raised a bunch of self entitled sore losers? Have I witnessed slick handling during a hunt yes and called them out on it some times its a honest mistake some times you can't prove it but all you can do is play the game and be as honest and fair as you can. I've never had a issue personally with anyone scratching a handler or dog cause they was winning nor anyone adding a coon or plussing a possum. Have seen some try to circle trees that should be minus or plus one with coon sitting 2 or 3 trees over. Usually when they see that they're gonna get questioned it stops there. Maybe if we'd realize it's a coon hunt that's it we're turning 2-4 dogs loose call your dog the best you can when you should and make as much effort to find someone else's coon as you would your own and at the end of the hunt one hound will be on top. Not saying it is always the best of the cast but on that given night and those conditions that particular hound was. There is no shame in losing to a better hound it's gotta happen you can't win them all

I'm not saying winning 5 hunts guarantees a dog is a coon dog, but it's better evidence than winning 1 and a couple cast as it it now.

HTX certification should prove he can tree a coon. But cheating can occur there also.

Maybe

5 minutes left in cast Walker Days...my walker winning cast with 400 plus falls treed alone. Other dogs in a deer race. I struck him for 25 and judge says with 30 seconds left "what ya gonna do" I let time run out to assure the cast win. Went to the tree he had the meat. Went back to camp and place 4th overall Friday night...would have place 2nd over all had I treed him. Lesson Learned....was it cheating not to tree my dog. I don't really know. But I never did it again...

Yes. Sometimes other hunters are cheated and sometimes the rules themselves are cheated. Both are wrong but are two different things.
