Sackett Jr bred dogs was all over the south when I lived there 17 yrs ago. And they was as good as anything else. Most of the north south stuff is pure made up BS.People need worry more on the bitch they breed, and be smarter than the dog and know what to do to train them up.

And I'm directing that at no single person,just hunters as whole.

I am not understanding why people think they act different just because they are frozen semen? The difference is because they are from another time period.
Being frozen and thawed does nothing but kill the weak sperm.
It still has the same genetics.
Right now i am still hunting in the early 90"s I love it!

It's interesting how most agree the Popsicle pups from 20-25 years ago have a calmer temperament then ones born today.I agree its nothing to do with the semen having been frozen but likely has everything to do with these dogs getting crazier and more hyper as the years and generations go by.

I must be doing something wrong. I think the pups I breed today are calm and have a head full of sense.

In my 35 years, the opposite of Jay's experience is true, Maybe terrain I don't know but the high strung never seem to have the smarts to hunt these mountains. Never had a problem with hunt, but have always had Good Lipper and Coma and House blood available. All they can do is go till they tree a coon

Not knocking anybodys program but some strains work better in different locations a lot of higher strung dogs work better in more populated coon areas. Where I live it's a fine line having a dog that will hit whatever you point it in but still have enough sense to hunt it thouraly and not run everything in the woods I will not tolerate bad kennel manners I don't care how many coons it trees. Some of the all grand dogs that were from here you try and point them in this stuff they would run the edges till they hit a road and they were gone and you would be chasing them down with the pickup to each his own.

Bruce, what an excellent thread you started. Enjoying reading the many knowledgeable comments. I can't wait to get back home to do some hunting. Hard to stay in the house when you have one you like to hunt!!

Good looking pup, Bruce!!!! I have a grandson to the old Diamond Jim dog, through Gibson's Ivy Blue Trooper. Trooper was a great hound and reproduced some good hounds. Diamond Jim died in 1981. This pup has the typical blanket back that ole Jim put on many of his pups, and he has that, distinctive, Diamond Jim mouth. I haven't fooled with him much...he's young, but really gamey. It's hard to grasp the fact that I have a grandson of DJ, in 2017, when he died many years ago!!! Thankful that someone had the vision, and insight to draw semen from old Trooper, which has been gone for many years!!!

The best ones I ever had, other than a couple 3 in my life were wired 480 and a hated them in the kennel ( if I wasn't hunting them hard ).. some of them wore two bark collars just to keep them from ruining there mouth. I hated them sapsuckers with a passion until I cut them loose.. I've had a few good ones over the years.. most people that don't hunt hard enough hated a Lipper dog or a Harry dog. I did too, ( in the kennel) but loved them when I unsnapped them...well most of them anyway. Lol Don't get me wrong , I can't stand a crazy acting sapsucker in the yard and absolutely loved the few I had that had kennel manners and had big go both, but I didn't have many like that.. Now if i keep the crazy buggers hunted up they have all kinds of manners in the kennel.. That's been the key for me.. Lol , but what the heck do I know. ☺️

Just an observation:

It sure looks like Jay's female is producing off every male she is bred to, those Lipper daughter's have always made them stud dogs famous!
Just seen that video of that pup at 8 months old treeing,both his parents are off frozen popsicles.....

I have a frozen semen litter off of Bone before he passed and 5 of the 10 pups in the litter were treeing coon before 6 months of age. They just turned 7 months old and 4 of them 5 that aren't treeing haven't seen a coon yet. I'd say there is no difference at all.
