Richard I'm not sure which it is either.I will say what ticked me off was it ruined the hunt for the other cast members. One of them told my wife after that they caught the dogs and called it a night.Personally I wish they had kept hunting.

This would have been back in the early 70's was on a UKC cast in Eastern Kansas. Three hour hunts then and one cast member was recovering from a heart attack. He was riding a big white mule (legal then) we got separated from other handlers, he said climb on up here. I got up behind his saddle and that mule sent both of us flying. Lights went one way boots went the other, we both fell hard and all I could think was hes going to have another heart attack. Got all gathered up and I finished that cast on foot, in fact last mule I was ever on.

This wasn't really a fall but I was on a cast one night and a guy fell out in a dirt road that we were walking in and died. He had a massive heart attack. We were way back in a woods. Had to call rescue squad and they drove in on 4 wheeler and got his body.

About 1976 or 77, I was hunting about every night during kill season. Coon hides were selling pretty high and I needed the extra money trying g to get thru school. I hated to hang a coon up worse than anything. All I could think about was a $20 bill laying in a tree to rot. One night a coon hung in a vine about 20 feet up a small oak. The vine seemed pretty tight, so up I went. About the time I grabbed the coons tail the vine broke and down we went. Just knocked the wind out of me. But I vowed to never climb another tree after a coon and haven't either. I have had several more falls that I may post later.Jr. Steelman

About this same time last year I turned a couple dogs loose and my old dog got treed across the creek. I have hunted this creek most of my life and never had any issues. I know where all the easy place to cross are but she was just across from me and the creek was dry so I thought I can just ease down this 12-15 foot bank by just holding onto this small tree in front of me. I took one more step in the weeds to grab the tree and there was nothing underneath the weeds. I started down and was able to grab the tree thinking I don't want to go head over heels to the bottom as it is a rock bottom creek and a lot of big loose ones in there. Problem was when I grabbed the tree is slammed me back into the bank right into my rib cage. At the time I was like man that hurt. I slid on down and went to the dog shined the tree found a coon and sent her and my pup on up the creek. They made another tree and I leashed them up and headed back to the truck about a mile away. Found out the next day I had a broken or cracked rib.

Falls

Fell over a small cliff one time and rolled down the hill. Felt fortunate that I only broke some ribs. That was by far my worst fall.

One time I was shaking a coon out of a tree, and a limb broke on me. Ended up shaking myself out. Was able to catch several branches on the way down, slowing my fall. Didn't get hurt on that one. That's the last time I attempted to shake a coon out though.
