MIKE WALTZ HAS BEEN VERY SUCESSFUL ALONG WITH KENNY ABBOTT

I'd have to say Chuck Schmershal would have to be on my list. Not many walker dogs pedigrees that don't go back to something of his.

And they still hunt what they breed and breed what they hunt.

It's only about your opinion! I know of a guy who owns at least 5 top hounds, that you've probably never heard of. His dogs are hunted in another KC, and most have handlers. I'm not sure if any of his hounds have a Nt. Ch. or Gr. Nt. title in front of their names, but they do have Platinum and Gold in front of them!

Greatest?

I'm sure we all have our picks and they all are probably good ones. It will be impossible to pick the top 5 cause everyone has their own idea of who did the most along with their chosen breed. It will be hard for a Redbone guy to look at a Walker breeder or a Walker breeder to look at a Bluetick breeder and so on. That being said I will try to keep an open mind and give my honest opinion. When I started hunting I remember seeing Mr. Umphers in every magazine and can't help but think that he has played a major part in the Black & Tans of today. Being a Bluetick man, I have many choices but one comes right to the top. Mr. Dave Dean. One can't argue with 28 generations of Blueticks and still going. Many great English breeders out there but Larry Wilcox has my vote on that one. As far as the Plotts, I'm going with Eugene Walker right here in WV and his Pocahontas Plotts although Dale Brandenburger and his Pioneer hounds were iconic. Don't know much about the Redbone guys so I'm gonna go with a local guy who is more of a promoter instead of a breeder, Fred Moran. Now to the Walkers, my picks would have to be James Merchant and Jo House. I grew up seeing these two men's hounds winning everything although there are many more capable breeders in the Walker breed. As I said before, too many great ones to hang your hat on just 5.
