Maybe they should go with hunting judges on Thursday night. They should certainly have 25 top honest judges handling a dog at the World Finals. Sounds like that would solve the problem. If the judge made a bad judgement call on scoring a tree then you could outvote him. Maybe you should suggest that to Allen and volunteer to be one of them. I wonder if they could get 25 volunteers.

They would get the volunteers but I doubt there was 25 truly qualified judges hunting in the finals either. The other KC brings in judges for their major hunts and pays them for their time. It doesn't need done in most UKC hunts but it does in this one.

If they can't find 25 qualified judges for the "world championship", then they have no business having the hunt.

I am nauseated just thinking about how this cast went.

I have seen people pulled in to judge and guide that were just there to see the sights. This was 10-15 years ago. Cost me a cast. Incompetent judging! Nothing new...

You would think that KNOWING there are 100 dogs coming, there would be 25 of the BEST judges there for the first and second round. Not the case. The location has gotten to be just wherever a club is willing and has warm bodies to act as judges.

Look back at some of the locations the past few years....

Some of these guys have driven half way across the country to get dumped in cutovers, and logged out woods with VERY few coon. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I get tired of hearing "it takes a coon dog" I would rather be put in good woods with above average coon population. Just my opinion.

Steve Fielder told me in 96 "you know some people ask why you would have a world hunt all the way out in Iowa. My philosophy is to put a coon hunt for a world championship title where there is a lot of coon and let the best dog come to the top"

Let me break this down for you. I took a good dog and little luck all the way to GA. I spent a lot of money to get there. I took off work. I expect the highest level of judging at what's supposed to be the highest level of competition. Is that unreasonable to ask?

And I will always be glad to be a non-hunting judge anywhere if I don't have a dog in it. Already said that.

I bet that didn't stop them from telling the judge how he should be doing it. Or complaining when they didn't like how it turned out. "I don't know the rules and can't judge but someone else should be able to."

We are all in the same brotherhood here.

You know nothing about John. He supports every local club within 75 miles or better from his home.
He has a reputation of being a man of impeccable character from everyone who's drawn him or have him judge or guide.
He's done it all. He has even left his dog at home to guide and judge in multiple Kc's in our area.

I do know the rules front and back. I did not tell the judge how to judge the cast. We had absolutely no arguing on the cast and there was absolutely no complaining.

I don't understand how you come up with your assumptions, and by the way it sounds, y'all are just ok with judges making bad calls and not knowing rules?? whats the point of even having structured hunts??

I have judged as many or more casts as anyone in recent years and I have had exactly one question on a call I have made while judging and I was determined correct in my judgement. I go 100% by the book, and will quote the rule and explain my reasoning for the decision. I put as much effort as possible into making the absolute best and fair decisions in every single cast I am in, with no exceptions.

And I know plenty of guys that I can say the same about.

Why would you pay a higher entry fee? Ukc needs to get their grubby hands off some of the money and pay the judges and guides. Think of how much money they take in on this hunt. $30.00 a head at each RQE and $100.00 per head at the zones, thats a pile of money @ least they could do is provide quality judges and guides. Ukc needs to pony up some $$$$$$.
How much $$$$ does the world champion get?

No sire Mr Richard. I said there wouldn't be 25 qualified judges Hunting in the finals. Knowing the rules is just a part of be a competent judge. I'll stand by my statement that there is not a club in the country with 25 competent judges. They would have to be brought in. Just because old so and so knows the rules pretty good and is an honest guy doesn't make him a good judge.

It never has bothered me. When I'm hanging I'm listening to every dog out there and every call that is made anyway.

Mr Rosamond you are right. I have hunted at several clubs across the country and I don't know of any with 25 "qualified" judges. But knowing the rules and being honest will go a long ways. Usually that is about all that you can ask for. But that doesn't guarantee that they will rule on trees or whether a dog moved or whether two trees touch or any of the other judgement calls that come up during a hunt to suit everyone.

Are there 25 "qualified" judges in the whole country if you subtract the 100 handlers in the hunt? And how much do you reckon UKC would have to pay them to take off from work and leave their families behind and drive all of the way to Georgia to put up with the argueing, grumbling and complaining?
