i knew it was going to be rough, the coon population is thin and they're moving way before dark and again real late. congrats to all that made it. there were a few that had some tough luck i would have liked to see move on. but thats the luck of the draw i guess. its definitely a lot different down south

True jay there are coons you just have to have a real dog to get it done. we pleasure hunted 1 hr from there last night and had seen 3 by 1130 and we turned loose at 800pm with just average dogs

This is the goofiest comment I've seen. What the heck is the point of having a hunt if you do not want to judge a dog's ability to tree coon?

By not giving them an opportunity to run and trail the appropriate game you do not see what they are bred to do. I'm sorry, but when I go hunting I like to tree coons. Preferably as many as possible, and as quick as possible. I do not go to a hunt to pray that I tree one and play defense for 2 hours.

Posted by Richard Lambert on 09-22-2017 04:15 PM:

Yeah, a dog should not have to work to tree a coon. They should be turned loose where there is a bunch of easy coons to tree. Then you could just listen to them tree all night. Who cares if they will go hunting to find a track or work that track to a tree with a coon. And if they make a mistake or a slick tree there should be 2 or three more coons for them to tree to make up for it.

I didn't say they didn't have to work a track.

What I am saying is that I like when there is a chance for a dog who works his own tracks to tree a coon to stay in the hunt by splitting.

When the entire cast only trees one coon in the whole hunt, you can't tell me that the best dog will win the majority of the time. That simply will not happen.

Posted by joey on 09-22-2017 04:27 PM:

There isn't hardly anywhere that doesn't have coons. Some not as many as others but they are there. They need put in enough coon to do their job but they do not need to be thick coon or have to go a mile to find one. I promise you those guys have enough coon in that area for the dogs to do their job. If they were moving or not is a complete different story.

crap hole

If your going to have a world hunt UKC in a crap hole atleast line up enough guides with decent hunting. My friend from KY said he was in a logged area that just absolutely sucked. Keep your world hunt up north where the best hunting in the world is.

i think the World Hunt should remain in the South where its not easy pickings, it helps weed out the mediocre and dogs that slip by on mistakes, but i think the guides could have done a better job putting the dogs in better areas... as well as making it more feasible to cut loose later, when the dogs could find coons. this time of year they're not walking till late so it makes it harder than it needed to be

Keep it up North where it's a treeing contest and average dogs can run up a big score? Nah it's where it needs to be, that's why they call it a HUNT. Automatic strike dogs who make mistakes aren't going to advance in the South.

Posted by MIKE CARDER on 09-22-2017 04:44 PM:

Meet in the middle

Centralize the hunt, let's say Kentucky. I thinks it's good for a dog to have to work to find a track. They either stay honest or gonna minus. Good to see it in GA this year.

So the that is quick to strike for 100 and cover for 75 on the only coon treed dog wins??? There are a lot of last strike ( cause they don't open till they smell a coon) 1st tree coondogs out there. Im sure those guys would like to travel to a place were you can get under 2 or 3 coon and have a chance to split tree. It doesn't need to be in coon country but some where in the middle would be nice. But that's why the world moves every yr if you don't like where it is this yr wait for the next yr. I have no problem with that, UKC does a fine job.

I'm convinced that the dog that becomes world champion is a a coon dog but not convinced all dogs had a legitimate chance to prove they were worthy of being champion

Now that is so true. But it is true no matter where you have the hunt. That is just the nature of coonhunting. And it is true of the Zones as well. I am sure that some pretty good dogs didn't make it to the Finals. It is a shame that the Finals aren't double elimination style. But there would probably still be a bunch of complaints. That is the nature of coonhunters.

Posted by Come Get Some on 09-22-2017 05:24 PM:

?

This is how this will fold out. If a male dog wins this thing he will be on a full page add the next day at stud for 500 bucks UKC WCH Ol Roy because he won a world hunt in GA. Final cast winner will score 1 maybe 2 coon I would imagine. That tells me nothing about that dog. Yea he tree 1 or 2 coon in 2 hours but I wanna see what that same dog does in good hunting with a average or above coon population like Oh In Ill MI. Let me see what he does after that one coon or that second coon and lets see what he does when those other 3 are treeing coon to. You have the best in the world as far as hunting goes up north so use it.

Last I checked this is a tree dog sport. If you like running so much, maybe you should consider some coyote trials. Myself, I prefer to walk to some tree to help break up the two hours.

I can assure you that an average dog there is average anywhere. It might run a better score than down in your parts, but it wont be enough to win. It still takes a good one to win in thicker coons. They have to tree more than one to get by. A high end me tooer will beat a good dog most days when they only tree one.

World hunt

All this talk about easy coons and weeding out the mediocre dogs isn't that what the rqe's and zones are for? I don't think any of the top 100 are mediocre or they wouldn't have got there. I can't say for sure but I would think the coons smell the same everywhere. Keep moving the hunt the hunters will hunt in it and the whiners will whine no stopping that.

I hunted the zones year before last in Elberton an scored three on Friday an 4 on sat. now that wasn't one dog on all of them that was with dogs doing some great split treeing work. all the crying about the world hunt being in the south is just something for the losers to cry an make as a excuse. Guess what when its in the north an they loos they still cry so its just a proven fact u cant please everyone. I went to the nc zones this year an I can promise u Elberton had more coon then the nc zones had an their was plenty of dogs that showed great work an advanced from nc to Georgia so no excuses. Sure some draw better guides then others that's called luck of the draw. I hunt all over the country ohio Indiana mich. sc an nc an I promise u I have had my share of dead cast in every state.

Posted by BEST EVER on 09-22-2017 06:15 PM:

From the looks at where the dogs are all from it was pretty wide open as to from what state has the most in there, would have thought there would have been more locals than there was. I think my good old state of Indiana still has two in there treeing them tough coons!!
