They can be bought...

Just come with the right amount of money!!!!!! Is this the same Preston Owens that lives in Grapevine Arkansas???? I thought he died or something… I guess Richard is gonna have to call UKC and get a prodigy report on Banjo III like you did Preston………………………………………………………………………………. There are many pieces to the puzzle and maybe even more then one puzzle, connected by pieces of the same puzzle that lead to other puzzles…. Its a spider web…. Good luck Richard. I was just fortunate enough to own a piece of the puzzle. Very fortunate. ………………………………………If you can get Preston to talk he might be able to help you as you traverse the web…. You might have to pin him down if you go and he goes to the refuge this year. Getting Preston to talk can be like pulling teeth from a badger. You had better come correct.

Would you consider my 3 females out of Jim X Wendy and my male out of Boone X Cat as pieces of the puzzle?
I did a little research and found that B3 crossed real nice with Heidi who was Rusty Red bred. So I crossed Wendy who has a lot of Rusty with Jim. That worked so well that Jared and I crossed Cat with Boone who also has a lot of Rusty blood. And that seems to have worked pretty nice also.
Now I wonder what would happen if Wendy was bred with a straw of that B3 semen? You are right. There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle out there. I know where a few of them are but not anything about Jon Henry's litter or the cross you made.

Banjo 3

Earl Bellmoore has John 3:16 off John Henry and Fireball Red Hot Liz . He's gotta be 3 by now hunted against him he was just under 2 i believe . He's a get gone deep hunter and hard tree dog little trashy at the time don't know if Earl has titled him or not yet as he was trying to finish his female . John Henry went rather young and I've heard good and bad about some of his offspring . I probably wouldn't mind owning a straw off B3 I'm sure there's still a couple 2 or 3 out there

John 3:16 and Pistol's mothers are 1/2 sisters. Terry Bridges and his son Brandon also have a nice male from the cross of Jon x Liz.

Banjo3

You guys realize that B3 wasn't the only good one off Banjo and Meg.. Old Banjo crossed well on several females. I'm glad to see B3 getting recognized on here these days. If only folks could have saw what some of us saw say 8 to 10 yrs ago. Think about that. If more females had went to him, Bozo, Moe, Willie, Tex.. Lucas is right I had ukc send me off spring reports off several "banjo" dogs. It wasn't hard Herb gladly gave me their ukc numbers. There was 5string in TN. HERBY in Michigan. Sailor. Yep in ways the breed missed a real chance. But with the semen saved on some of these dogs I mentioned it won't ever be gone.

Titles

To some those represent coondogs, what I was referring to was going to the woods with them and seeing the traits you guys are chasing now. I saw it off Banjo x old meg banjo x Tricie banjo x little Girl. Herb thought a lot of old banjo told me that he crossed better on meg as far as those pups had more drive. What I saw was consistent desire to get treed fast. Treeing layups, consistent lower ended strike dogs but 1st tree or split. Not from just one dog off old banjo but a bunch. I probably have more banjo stock than anyone. And i never based my comments off the stats on this or that. I based it off nights in the woods. It doesn't matter much these days. There's just a touch of it left. But the numbers on B3 will go on up. There's several more to title and will be some more in the future

I owned a male off of b3 and Heidi. I bought him when he was a young dog.He sure made a nice hound. He had only been in two hunts before he was killed. The first he lost the cast by 25. He was a low end strike dog. So this hurt him sometimes. The second cast he was on he was leading the cast when he was struck and killed by a car. I sure liked him he had a big bawl on ground he opened here and there. Had three long bawl locates and was a slobber mouth tree dog.

That's the million dollar question ! Of course a brother semen may do just as well ? Wonder if there's any tight line bred AI breedings coming in the future ?

Posted by Richard Lambert on 08-28-2017 11:50 PM:

Does B3 cross best when linebred or outcrossed? I am not real knowledgeable on B3 but it seems to me that he does best when outcrossed.

Posted by Crazy Luke on 08-28-2017 11:58 PM:

Line bred ????

I have been messing with these B3 dogs for some time, so I will tell you what I have and you folks can decide for yourselves. Of coarse the ole girl which is the reason I have been messing with these B3 dogs is Gr Nt Mandy II. ( Gr Nt Banjo 3 and Nt Ch Mandolin... I now have another male dog directly off Banjo 3 and Freak. His name is Sonny Boy 5... Not finished but coming along nicely... He is a big loud wound up sucker. First, honest strike dog working on the rest. This winter should finish him... Also have a male off Gr Nt Jon Henry and Gr Nt Mississippi. He has a first won on him but like most dogs needs hunting. Again a good season would do him good.I also have a young male off Gr Nt Pigeon River Jim and Gr Nt Coffmans Smoking Tess... Only been to the woods once but I like what I saw...That it for the males. The females...PR Coon Bustin Mandy. Off Gr Nt The Coon Buster and Gr Nt Mandy II. Has second place won in the hunts. She hunts out good.Great disposition. Real good mouth. Can easily be heard in thick woods at 800 yards. Good Tree dog. I would like her to be a little more independent . Thinking about breeding her to Jim or Sonny maybe Cock your Pistol. All would cross back on her. Also own Swamp Mud Mandy. She is off of Jon Jr. and Gr Nt Mandy II. A son of Jon Henry bred to a sister of Jon Henry. Banjo 3 top and bottom. Sat in the kennel till she was 16 months. Been to the woods about 6 times and she is really coming on fast. Real good mouth , get gone in a hurry. Independent. Quickly becoming a nice dog. Open track dog but not a babbler. I like her a lot. Thats about it for the Banjo dogs. So when the puzzle contains Banjo 3 up close or dogs that can be produced with Banjo on top and the bottom of the pedigree or 3 shots of him as grandfather twice and great grandfather in a pedigree I am not considering breeding to a dog that has one shot of Banjo 3 as the great grandfather if the other dogs are not similar bred to what I all ready have. Its just where I am heading in this breeding program. As for now I have not had a litter here for 2 years. I would like to get one more litter from Mandy II before she gets to old. We will see what the future holds. I do think the key to any line of dogs is getting them into the hands of quality dog trainers. They can't make it if they don't go to the woods. Lucas... It's funny you asked that question Richard . I wrote this as you posted the question above.

Banjo Sons and grandsons

Would like to compile a list of studs dogs that have Banjo 3 as their father or grandfather. I will list what I know and any one else can add their input. They can be dead. #1 Gr Nt Pigeon River Jim,#2 Gr Nt Jon Henry. #3 Nt Ch Fish Creek Bull and #4 Nt Ch Bushwhacker. #5 Gr Son / Gr Nt Pistol. They were. couple of dogs that died that had 1or 2 first place wins on them. Jenks Slick, Stricklands dog which I was just looking at a pedigree list and saw today. I have three others here that have the pedigree but not the experience. Jon Jr ,Jungle Jim and Sonny Boy 5... Roy Nealy owns a young male thats has Banjo 3 top and bottom.Again the pedigree and not the experience. John Wayne.
