My doctor has never sold me meds, he gives me a script and I take it to the pharmacy. Why are vets different?
I have a great relationship with the two vets I use. If I need them at 2:00 am, they are a phone call away. But I havent had a dog vaccinated by a vet in years, I never buy wormer or heartworm/tick preventatives from a vet and dont feel the slightest bit guilty about it. In my world, its just plain stupid to pay 40% more when I don't have to. Oh yeah, and I always get my dogs rabies vac at TSC, $20 and no office call.

I learned one thing about the rabies shots. My wife and son both have bulldogs that stay in our backyarf and they killed a skunk one night . I had heard of skunks in our area being found positive for rabies. I had this one tested and sure enough it was also. The health dept put the two dogs on quarantine for 6 months and told me I had to get shots from a vet. I told them I had already given shots myself but here in Arkansas it's state law, any dog that bites someone or is exposed to a positive animal have to be quarantined and receive shots from a vet. I refused for the length of quarantine but they wouldn't release the dogs til I got the shots. The dogs were quarantined to my back yard and they only checked once a month so I didn't care if they released them or not. Then I got a visit from the sheriff threatening me with a ticket , he said it would be 50$ per day til I got the shots. Luckily a local vet was having a 10$ shot day and I got them both done. My biggest problem with this is it's obvious the shots worked because the dogs are still here and doing well. I have on average 10-12 dogs and have been giving shots for years and will continue to do so. I live in the county that is number one in Arkansas for positive rabies encounters. I will never call the health department again, I will shoot the skunk and burn it. If they were more concerned with wiping out the problem they would work with folks instead of treating them like criminals.

I can get rabies shots here for $5. It's not illegal to do so from what I can read on it, I can give my own rabies shots, but like Neal Stock posted, my understanding is that if there's ever a problem, the dog will not be recognized as vaccinated for rabies.

I choked can vet .com and the price I saw for bravecto was like 46$ usd am I doing something wrong cause I get it from lamberts for 35$ each ?

Home to a bunch of short dogs who occasionally allow me the honor of holding the other end of their leads!

Like I said I am very lucky with my vet. He doesn't charge double, his fees are very reasonable.

That's the kind of vet I was talking about.

You guys in AR. just go buy rabies shot go home give it to dog. In Missouri we have to load up dogs go to town and vet gives shots and charges clinic visit also. This law was passed so the back woods trash would get their dogs shots but it sure makes the vets a lot of money.
