Ability to look at

If color is the preference then we all lose a little. If ability is the preference then we all gain a lot. Me personally, I wanted to see a big bone under a dog. One that could stand as much hunting as you wanted to put on one. I know, take the Red Bone or BlackandTan, they were sort of watered down to make a fine bone, strait as an arrow kind of dog that was really pretty to look at. But ability was almost lost because of this. I know I will catch flack for saying that but it's the truth. Same thing happened to the Plots. Not that there not out there but in numbers it really showed up. Thanks to some dedicated breeders that stayed the coarse these breeds are coming back.

I kind of liken it to a fine tuned race car. Every year we have a big gathering of the local dirt track race cars at one of our malls in our area. Wow, some of them will water your eyes. Beautiful well groomed machines! But in the end it's all about what's under all that metal that counts. Yes, a good qualified driver (or handler, if you will) is needed but without what's under the hood, it's just a good looking race car. This is kinda' my way of looking at it. The old saying, looks can be deceiving, is a good phrase to use here. It is very possible to get both rolled up in one but know what you want and don't settle for less.

IMO the bluetick breed already has good conformation as a whole. But is lacking in top performers in the woods. Think about it this way, how many bench show dogs do you see in the higher levels? And how about the hunts? I understand you have to have good conformation for a hound to hold up to long nights hunting. But what we're lacking is the heart and drive. There's not many that have the same kind of go in the late rounds as the early rounds. And especially so for consecutive nights like the chkc world, chck little world, the pkc world, and the nationals. They have plenty of go in the first round but they fizzle out in the late rounds.

Sorry if anyone finds this offensive but just stating my opinion on this.
