07/26/2016 Crack (Male #4)

This chase was on a turn loose coon in a big cornfield. Worked the track good and treed solid on it. Photobucket wont load my videos or else I'd show him treeing. This coon had to be atleast 25+LBS. Was as wide as the trap and I don't think was even able to turn around in it. Broke the pan in my trap somehow, so i'll be working on that today in the daylight. Hopefully he makes it till hide season. I'd like to be carrying him into the weight hunt in November

Crack and Buck treed on a small Hemlock last night

I've been carrying Crack along occasionally lately when I take Buck out. Crack's coming along great and is ready for a hide season on his head. I've been hunting Buck pretty consistent getting him ready for the Zones this weekend. We've been hitting the hills/ravines/ creek bottoms. Not sure what the terrain is going to be like at the PA Zone, but if I had to guess we're going to see some hills

This picture right here is 100% what it is all about.

Casting four dogs and they ambush a litter feeding. They go up and dogs are hammering the trees down. For a puppy born and raised in my kennel, it's a good night when he splits from 3 dogs pouring the coal and he never misses a beat. Bad Man Squaller and red/white lights were shining from different angles, and Crack stayed belly tight paying no attention to what was going around him.

Pups are ready for some solo time getting their toenails sunk in.

Have one last comp hunt to go to with my grnitech male soon, then KC and Crack are getting the woods time. Hoping to have them both doing it all on their own and ready for some local hunts by Spring time.

Took Crack and KC last night

Collared up and ready to go

They had their independent mentality from the start. Crack(blue) started the track ahead of KC over his way, and KC(orange) was following up the creek. The creek must've been the right route to take. She ended up getting to the tree first. Followed shortly by crack.

This is their tree styles. Crack is a tree huggin' chop mouth, and KC will stand at the base of the tree and bawl.

Sometimes she'll get up on the wood and chop.

Time for the pups to grow up

I let these two pups age as long as I could without breaking them off of off-game.

I do believe there are naturals out there, but I would much rather have a gamey pup I think. I feel that gamey pups have more of a drive to look for a track. Crack and KC didn't give me any concerned issues with deer except for a few incidents where a red hot deer busted out in front of them, an obvious short chase would occur. But with hide season right around the corner I didn't want to have any coon hunts ruined due to the deer activity on the frits. Last week I dumped crack on a hot deer and corrected him, then did the same with KC. They both came back tails tucked with a hot neck. Dumped crack on a second deer and he wanted no part in it. Did the same with KC and she didn't want any part of it either. Short and sweet and hopefully all it will take to keep their head straight from here on out.

I took Crack out last night and he was a little hesitant about adventuring out. I cut him on a creek bottom and he would go 30 yards and look back at me, and keep waiting on me to catch up. About 200 yards straight ahead from where I cut him I saw nice 8point buck bedded down. I pressured crack more and more in his direction and he didn't want anything to do with him. I'm thinking he was winding that buck when I cut him. The wind was coming at us and Crack's always got his nose in the air checking air currents. We walked away from the buck and went up the creek more. Crack took a feeder track up the creek 150 yards, and up the side of a steep ravine. When I got in to him, crack was on top of the ravine sitting under a tree.

Took Crack and KC across the road from the kennel last night. The rain was coming down pretty good and I was almost tempted to turn around and walk back before cutting them loose. I cut them to the West heading up a creek bottom, they hooked right handed to the South off the creek bed and up a logging trail. About 250 yards up the trail they both took a short lived screaming track to a tree in short time. I adventured my way to them slowly and they sure sounded sweet treeing. The area they were treeing in was relevant to a group of den trees, and these weren't just trees. They were gigantic trees. This tree they were treeing on was probably 7ft in diameter. I couldn't catch any eyes on the outside, but there was a hole from the base of the tree up through to the top. We were soaked and headed home

Here is another video of Male 5. He is progressing nicely. we had him up for sale but folks were only interested in asking LOADS of silly question. so we decided to keep him. Our kill season starts Nov 10 and its just him and my GRNITECH walker male around here right now so he will get hunted plenty.

Crack and KC helped get us in the money

This past weekend we had two separate Meat Hunts. One on Saturday night and one on Sunday afternoon.

We hunted 7PM-12:50AM and just barely made deadline at the Saturday night 2AM weigh in deadline. We won heaviest single for $500, and heaviest 3 combined for $250. With the clocks going back an hour, it gave us an extra hour to hunt in the morning. We got back home just after 3AM and tried our luck for a few bigger coon on a couple more spots because we had the next meat hunt weigh in sunday afternoon at a different club. We got back at 5:20AM and I almost went bow hunting, but my pillow was sounding sweeter. Sunday's weigh in we had heaviest single @24lbs and change and heaviest 3 combined for 70lbs and change. We had the competition beat by 11pounds. My little brother also won youngest entry with heaviest coon @ 22lbs. We won $360 and ended our weekend $1,110 ahead

I would be interested in paying to farm one of these pups out for the rest of the hide season.
provided that the pup is well taken care of, and not tied out back in a pig sty

Boars were running last night

Took Crack and my walker female Ellie to a couple spots and ended up treeing a couple big coon. First drop dogs hit a decent track and moved it quite a ways through the timber. They were about 1000 yards through the block so we drove around and got on a railroad bed that got us within 100 yards of them. Crack was treeing every breath and the walker was at the base of the tree watching us walk in. They had a big buck coon sitting on the outside. We rolled it out to crack and didn't let the walker touch it. Next drop we cut them on the edge of a standing corn field. Walker female started a track in the woods and Crack was on the edge of the woods and corn starting on the same track and they both moved it out into the corn. They couldn't line it out. I'm thinking the coon crossed through and went on the other side of the road. We called them in and went to another spot. 3rd drop hounds went up a creek bottom and back at us with no luck, we started walking up a logging trail and they hunted out in front of us. 450 yards ahead of us Garmin showed them treed. We could faintly hear them so we hoofed it to them. Not sure where they started the track or how they sounded tracking, but Garmin wasn't lying with the treed icon. We walked through the woods and crossed the railroad tracks and Crack and Ellie were hammering a tree down across a short cut corn field on the edge of a woods. Ellie did a better job treeing on this one rather than staring at us. They had another big coon up. We rolled it out to both of them. We had a long walk back to the truck, so we hunted the creek bottom back to the truck. Ellie took a track out of hearing and crack joined in. We drove around and got within 20ft of them. Oddly enough Crack was stuck in some thick underbrush next to the railroad tracks and Ellie was in the same brush. Both hounds were just standing there hung up with thick briars. We pulled them out and headed home.

Both hounds did fairly well for what I was expecting. Came home with two big coon

This line is continueing in Western NY

Have a male pup getting delivered today out of some tough blue dogs in Indiana. One of those happens to be Wild N Blue Jazz. She whelped a litter out of NITECH Walston's Blue Big Country on Nov. 1, 2016. This male pup will be a grandson to "Ol' Jewell" who passed on me this past 2016 Spring, and a nephew to Crack and KC who I currently have now. I couldn't make up my mind on which pup I wanted, so Chris picked for me and said it'll be a surprise. We will see later this evening which puppy is the lucky winner for a lifetime of NY winters haha. If he makes the grade, I plan on trying my luck for a aunt/nephew cross in a few years from KC and this pup. This will double up on a lot of that old blood, especially 2004 Autumn Oaks Overall Winner GRNITECH Wild N Blue Lou.

Jazz was the high scoring dog Saturday night at the 2016 Bluetick Reunion, and a 2016 World Qualifier. She also is closing the gap on making PKC Champion. In 5 hunts (3 UKC casts and 2 PKC casts) she scored 2,300 plus points without drawing any minus. And this was accomplished before the age of two years old. Should've been world hunt bound but her hillbilly owner blew it, literally. DQ'd-BBQ for squalling early. haha!

Big Country "Bimbo" made NITECH this year with a cast win at a RQE hunt qualifying him for the zones. I don't know a whole lot about him, but I do know that Chris says he is a hard hunting sucker that doesn't tire out. His pedigree is full of high scoring dogs. He was high scoring dog Thursday night at the 2016 PKC Labor Day Classic also. I've watched a few videos of him and he is indeed loud!

Chris picked me out a good one!

This little dude is a ball of fire when he isn't using my lap for a sleeping spot. He's got a great mouth on him, and a good personality. If we are not paying attention to him, he'll pounce his front feet on the ground and let a big bawl out. Chris and his family did a great job with this litter.

Still working on a name for the little dude. Will take all the help I can get on that
