I believe you and I crossed paths many years ago. Did you not have a Gr Nt female named Spring Creek Cloudy? If so, I had a litter mate sister to her. If not, my mistake. As for layup ability I have owned some dogs that were very good at winding a track but not many that could just lay one up with little to no track available. The best I owned at that was directly off of Broad Ax Blue Max. She was a real pro at it and did it quite often. I owned the mother to her and she was heavy Hammer but was not good at layup but had a powerful cold nose, just had to have a track. I've owned a lot of hounds heavy in the Morris' Blue River Boomer linage that could lay one up but their strong point was winding and track speed. I'm sure there are many blood lines out there that have these type of hounds but what I've found out is that not every dog possess these qualities even if they're from the same litter. I believe it takes a lot of brains as much as nose but more brains in my opinion. Good luck and have a good day.

Ron, I think you are exactly right on the brains thing, the type of dog we are talking about is hard to breed for they just show up in certain lines. The Bo dog I had was out of Russ's stuff and went back to the Boomer stuff, in my all my years of coonhunting and comp hunting you don't see many that can fall under coon and be accuate.i ruined young dogs hunting with that dog cause they had no idea what he was treeing. Most I see are either trying to wind and fall short on a slick or tree sniffin around the woods, this is were the brains thing comes in.

Yes Ron I had a female named Cloudy I pushed a little. Black and white female with a big mouth. She was a little better than average. Good to hear from you.

I agree that it takes brains and or desire to use their winding ability. The ability is there or it isn't. The desire to use it and the intelligence to learn to use it effectively are separate traits. IMO

I am going to do more research and breed for these traits and will find out. One of the reasons I am reaching out on subject is to learn. Didn't expect this much response and am appreciative of all input and respect everyone's ideas on the subject.

have you heard of the spud dog. I think it was out of thron and hank tabors grandnite dog? I have read alot on the post about him.

A dog you might want to go huntin with is Mackie Manns called Wild and Blue Jet I seen tree 2 sitting coon on a real frosty nite at a real young age.

Hey Austin this is sleepy just reading some of the post on here and it sounds like a lot of people have the right line of dogs but it's already on the ground ready for u if u can get down to La. Lol, Fly show all that u are looking for. Hunt with here head up and scream at the first sent of coon riding in the box u won't no a dog in the box on a dirt road until she smell sent.

I have a female that I've got bred I have her listed on here she does this alot and the last hunt she was in all the dogs were cast and about 100 yards in she opened and fell treed nothing else in the cast even opened at all

I have a female that I just bred to the My pup trainer he's old Vaughn and Utchman. She has the most winding and layup ability of any dog I ve ever owned of any breed. When you turn her loose she almost always hunts in to the wind. She a nice dog and has a great mouth. Her sire is Nt champ Harpeth River Jack. She is old Vaughn bred on the bottom side with Fouche River. I m excited about this cross as both dogs have brains and tree coon alone or with company. THEY are a joy to have around the house as well as hunt. Hope you fine a nice dog to work with.
