-- Top Dog.....Big Winner (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928448917)

Roy, then how did you know that they were a Top Dog? Just because a dog does a good job treeing coon does not make them a Top Dog, does it? If they are not in competition, then how do you know that they are better than the other dogs out there? Just because a dog is the best dog in your yard does not make him/her one of the Top Dogs in the country, does it? I guess that it all goes back to the original question. Does a dog have to be a big winner to be a Top Dog?

Blah, blah, blah, talk, talk, talk, my Granny used to say that "actions speak louder than words". If you want to tell everyone about your "Top Dog", then this board is the place to do it. But if you want to show everyone your "Top Dog", then Marshall, Il on May 14th is the place to do it.

So now this is what makes a top dog..not the chkc world, the spring classic, southeastern or one of the other big hunts that went on the last few weeks..Top dogs are made in Marshall illinois ...

Mr Dalton, did a Redbone win any of those hunts, or even win a cast? I don't think that getting an award for "showing up" really qualifies you as a "Top Dog".

You could, however, bring your dog to Marshall and show 15 of your peers that you have a "Top Dog". That is how I would do it anyway. I should think that would go a long way toward convincing others that you have a "Top Dog". Or you could just sit at home, type on the computer and dream about your "Top Dog".

Then your post should read top redbone instead of top dog your granny also said to realize your own short comings before you look for others. .She was a smart woman ..Hope you are doing well. .Seeing a few tenn.boys out here in ohio..

Since this is a Redbone Forum, I thought that it was understood that we were talking about Redbones. I know my shortcomings. I am pretty realistic. That is why I am not in Ohio. I saw where it took 1075+ just to tie for 4th last night. But if we can put this together, then I will be in Marshall. I can quarantee that we will have a good time and there will be 4 Redbone winners.

Brother richard I hope if I ever get to retire you will let me hang with you a bit..Didn't take but 275 minus to win our cast last night up here and we couldn't even manage that ..I'd buy me a good redbone if I could sell a couple hundred pair of boots off the trailer

Refuge

I thought you fellas went to the refuge the last couple of years (5) to settle who had the best redbone… I think the best redbone was the one that put all those coons in the back of P_ _ _ _ _ _ _ O_ _ _ _ truck… Make up my mind would you… Is it the refuge or IL.???????

Top dog???

I think I got a top dog. Just not gonna drive 20 hours or even 10 to prove it to someone. I have seen many of those heartland dogs come here from a coon rich environment only to be sent home empty handed. Can't cut it here. You got to have heart and desire when you come to these swamp and briar infested woods. I have been to Indiana and never left a 150 acre piece of woods and treed coon all night… You won't do that here…. One of these day I am gonna get to that refuge and hunt. Hope you are there Richard and better have your walking shoes on and a wheel barrel… ( To carry the coon) Maybe you can coax Preston back from wherever he is ...

It sounds like you need a good Redbone if your dog couldn't manage any plus points up there. It is all a matter of priorities. You just have to decide what you need/want the most and what will bring you the most pleasure. I believe that I would sell the boots and trailor. I remember when I decided to quit work because it was cutting into my coonhunting time. I just sold my horses and big house and land and bought a doublewide.

Thought about it but I must be too competitive .if a man wearing plaid shorts that stayed on a golf course was beating me all the time I would spend the grandkids inheritance to beat him ..I would have to learn that losing is alright..well I should be use to that though ...Hope you ready for redbone days. we are getting the ball gloves out and getting ready to whip up on some senior softball players for the summer

See, it is all about priorities. Some people like to fish, some people like to play golf, some people like to play ball, some people like to go out on the lake in a boat, some people like to drink and hang out in bars, some people like to show horses and some people like to race cars. I guess that I have done all of the above at some time in my life but now I like to coonhunt and raise dogs/pups.

And Redbone Days is a long way off. I am getting ready to take my "Top Dog" to Salem, Il next weekend and see if he is a "Big Winner" also.
