Your right Robert I reread it and none were handled. So no plus on the dead coon. You have to go on like it never happened. They are not "struck back in" because they are still on their original strike points.

This is different from PKC where a tree call is required to score dogs in a place of refuge. That can really bite you in PKC because dogs in a hole will often bale when a light hits them which gets you minused the tree points in PKC while it does not hurt you in UKC because no tree call was required.

Yep, however it was never said why the cast moved in, just tryin to "keep up" is not a reason to shine the dogs. Now if it sounded like they had a coon bayed or heard the coon fight, well if nobody wants to make a tree call then yes the judge can slide everyone closer to investigate.

To me that's where things screwed up, especially when it appears all 4 didn't know the rules all that well.

In the wham/bam moments, if you are confused then wait until the action stops and the judge should repeat the scored situations as best he knows how (he should know better than the other 3!), put it on the card, let the question marks fly if needed and move to the next drop.

I'm with Jim, argue and you can go home, light my card up with little question marks all you want, but we gonna calmly finish the 2 hours.

But dog a and dog d are moving down the creek, again and get treed. Now the whole cast is at the dead coon arguing about what to do about d and c . The owners want to plus the caught coon and they also re struck and treed dogs d and c. with out ever handling them! So tell me how you score it.

i say score it as seen all dogs had the coon on the ground strike points plus call time out and delete d and c give them one hour to catch there dogs

you arrived at dead coon two dogs are chewing on it!! get plused on track! you handled 2 dogs on coon!! other 2 don't get any thing they are on track when you arrive at dead coon! they hold there strike and go check there tree! what I should say if you don't turn loose before the 2 dogs get treed!!! your 2 dogs are leash locked. But confusion set in and all hell broke loose!! how do ya keep up with dogs on a hot track. Must been blue dogs!!!!lol

Would the handlers whose dogs left want plus strike points if their dogs didn't tree? I believe that question helps answer the first question.

Posted by joey on 03-27-2016 06:21 PM:

Its simple if a dog is not handled at the caught coon they do not get plus points. Even if it was there at one time.

Minus since they left the caught coon

Posted by rob thompson on 03-27-2016 08:12 PM:

Can't minus them they didn't come into the cast the 8 didn't get them and it wasn't off game.

As far as i know the only dog that has to be leashed is a dog at a tree, per the rulebook. Do dogs have to be handled in order to be scored plus? They certainly can take minus points without being handled.

Posted by Levi Ward on 03-27-2016 11:30 PM:

You can minus/scratch a dog for seeing them run off game with out handling them so why can't you plus them for catching a coon without handling them? IMO plus all 4 and call time out

Posted by rob thompson on 03-27-2016 11:48 PM:

Well this is a situation were opinions probably started the arguement

Isnt that the reason for every argument? Lol

Nothing in the rules require the dogs to be handled on the caught coon. It is assumed but not stated / required. There is also not rule that prevents the dogs from leaving the coon (that is inky leaving the tree that results in minus).

Because the track is ended, the restruck and retreed dogs were scored correctly. However, the wise thing would have been for the judge to call time out and recast the dogs after the caught coon since the two left and the dogs weren't handled.

Since it did happen that way, it seems to me the hunt was scored correctly under the circumstances.

exactly if they leave it stop start the 8 of it gets them bad break. You can't call time till all dogs are handled. And you can't score a dog without handling them first.

Finally someone gets it!lol

So do u have to tree the dog before going and handling them

No in the case of a hole/tile but you can't make the cast take one step to a dognot opening. The same thing happened to me at the zones coon was caught dog stopped barking and that's a bad break man.

Posted by Fire Archer on 03-28-2016 03:34 PM:

Surely the "UKC" guys have this one figured out by now and should be giving us the final verdict soon.

Posted by bluetick250 on 03-28-2016 05:16 PM:

I understand u can't walk without dog opening but if u hear them fighting coon like prob in this case do u have to tree dog before handling them even if barking

The only rule pertaining to dog catching coon is "3. POINTS WILL BE PLUS (c)" which states "If dog catches coon, strike points only."
