For Coonhunts/Youth hunts 13 years old.

Softball we usually stayed within 60 miles and commuted daily until she was 16 years old then hit the road.

Now it's all Softball at 17 and on the road a lot.

Hey Andrew, great job with your young dog you have been winning with. Sounds like you have another ready to go as well. I also put my young male in a nite hunt at 10 months old. I was very nervous about it and decided before hand if anything even looked at him sideways we were done. He scored a good score but got beat. We found one of his coons after shine time was up. I say if they are ready and can run and tree one alone consistently, put them in, but be ready to pull them out.

Also keep in mind that you have young dogs. They are just operating on raw talent. They have not learned to lie to you yet on a slick, they haven't learned to bump junk, jack trees and facebark. They are too young to posture, piss all over the place or all of that garbage that goes on in the hunts. They are honest and have coons when they tree so it is possible to win with them especially if you have trained them ALONE.

But the time is also coming where you will look at your young wonder dog and ask yourself if it is the same dog you had a few months ago. They all hit the wall. And most come out of it. When that happens its time for pleasure hunting and positive reinforcement.

I will also say that I think Redbones are, "starting" quicker now than I remember. It's a good thing. I will take one like that over the two year old that is just getting going. Just keep it in perspective. Good luck!
