-- A fee to breed a female? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928442884)

Posted by Richard Lambert on 02-09-2016 01:30 PM:

I realize that The female usually doesn't get that much credit. But that is the female's owners fault usually. Stud dog owners promote and advertise their stud but female owners rarely promote their female. Chris just look back at the Wendy posts if you think that I promote Boone.

Also, I know that raising a litter of pups is time consuming, expensive and a big gamble. I know because I have raised a few. That is why I said that if you have a nice female that is a proven reproducer just send her down to me and I will breed, raise and sell the pups. If you breed to only get a couple of pups for yourself, then I will take care of all of the expense and hassle and send you a couple of pups back with your female when they are weaned.

So in your guys eyes. What is a proven reproducing female?

Posted by Richard Lambert on 02-09-2016 10:47 PM:

In my eyes, it is one that "I think" can reproduce nice hounds.

Good thread. I agree a great female is a must I know I would pay.

Good idea, but instead of purchasing a card reader...wouldn't a paypal account work the same way?

Probably Because they breed a bunch of junk females to them.

Which is why a good female is so flipping expensive

Very simple I don't charge a single female I breed to I get pups out of the litter! But then again I ain't like most I breed only select females and only breed 5 females a year to any of the three males I breed and if she ain't a top notch winning, reproducing bitch they don't get bred plain and simple makes a lot people mad but just the way Trader Inc does things! And people cry to me about pup prices and I say go buy 5 junk pups for the price 1 good pup that is out of a cross that is known to work!

Yeah there is a lot of junk being breed.I don't see that changing either.I called and pretty much begged to see young dogs in the timber out of several studs. There was not 1 guy within 300 miles of my house willing to show what they had. That worried me.So I went to a few pup hunts and started hitting the local hunts. The dogs that I hunted against and spectated were pretty disappointing. After all this wasted time and money I'm back at the drawing board.lol

What are you looking for? I'm in OH also and I'm sure I can put you in the woods with some nice hounds.

Years ago Schenker Had to pay to breed to on of Harold Baily's females. I can't remember if it was Jet to Fox River Mandy of Dan to Patsie (black dogs).

Myself I buy female pups I like the bloodlines on and raise them up myself. This way I know what is natural and what has been man made. If I need to put a little more independence in my stuff it does me know good to breed to a Stud dog that has been man broke to never tree with another dog. The stud dog owner isen't going to tell you the dog was broke to tree alone, he's just going to say the dog likes to be/get alone. I have bought a good number of pups in the last 15 yrs and have only had one worth breeding too. But I am very selective and not interested in making money on pups, or stud fee's. I get calls often to breed to females. I tell them all I have to hunt with them 1st. Guess what, you never hear from them again. So I see both sides of the coin. I think whoever has the lesser hound should pay the fee. And anything over $300 for a pup is a joke. I don't care if it's world champ to world champ odds are only 1 pup out of the litter is going to be above avg.

I like a dog that's bawl on track, opens according to the track,so not mouthy, hard hunting, accurate and a little independent. One that after I put the time in on it can go to town and win in style.Mouth and style are huge to me.I don't think that's much to ask but believe me there not so commen.

Posted by pjeremie on 02-11-2016 03:56 PM:

I am with Jeff Prince I'll pay the stud fee and let that dogs owner take all the calls. In the end the female gets paid to have pups. They get the cost of the stud fee(maybe more) X number of pups - shots, feed, etc. I would guess if she is a healthy female you would average six pups. That makes one pup to cover the stud fee and five to cover the cost and pay the female. In the end either way should work out the same if you have a good female that's proven to throw good pups. Also I only have two young dogs I am hunting right now, no stud dogs or good females I'm breeding so this is just my thoughts not to upset anyone.

STUD DOG

The female is what determines the males ability to reproduce

The stud dogs owners Job is to blow the dog up//so he will get good females to breed.

I have always said Stud dogs are way over rated...

Opinions are like *******s everyone has one, that being said my male dog has been bred to several top notch big winning females and to several "brood" females. He has crossed well on just as many top females as he has on brood females. So to think that the female is what really makes the stud dog id ridiculous,it takes the best traits from each side coming together to create a top notch pup.jmo

A lots of pups are never put in a hunt.I have a female that's had two litters for a total of seven pups.I own a Gr Nite out of each litter. One pup was killed on the road at two years old couple weeks after winning an RQE. Two I was told where making good dogs.Other two no idea.None of the pups I sold where ever put in a hunt.So with seven pups only two where titled most people would think this wasn't very good.

I will get with you this yr for a hunt. Your closer to the Witch Doctor dogs have you hunted with any of them? Some of them go a little too far( pass up too many coon). But they always have a coon and are what your looking for. I would get a pup out of Juice myself.

Sounds good.Whos juice?

Pat and Jack Maggard's dog from KY. They also owned Witch Doctor and Late Round Bound. I never hunted with Bound but spent a lot of time in the woods with Juice and Ditch Witch. Juice was nice till a handler bout ruined him. If I hunted Walkers I would have something out of Juice.

A top reproduceing female will throw good pups no matter what you breed her to.

One of these days we will be able to collect eggs from these females, freeze them and sell or use them many years after the female is dead.
What would a dozen eggs out of ol stylish queen be worth today?

Posted by Richard Lambert on 02-14-2016 05:10 PM:

Elvis when that day gets here, we will truly know what a female is worth just for her reproducing ability. I wonder if we should go ahead and start collecting and freezing eggs and storing them for when that day arrives, kinda like cryogenics.

Technology is not quite there yet, but it will be.
In cattle, if i understand correctly, they can collect the eggs but they have to fertilize them in a lab and then they can freeze the embryo. They cant freeze just the eggs.

But then when it comes right down to it, the burden is put on the female and her owner to pay the stud fee, register the litter, put all the bells and whistles on them, get them in good hands and hope they get hunted.

Well, if its true that the female is more important to a good litter (and it probably is IMO) then shouldn't we switch it around and have female fees? I'm just throwing out an idea. How much would stud owners be willing to pay to breed to a proven producer who is owned by a breeder that raises pups the right way, puts them in good hands and hunts what they get from the female stock they keep?

that's a dang good idea
