-- ODNR meeting on closing dog running in April (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928429395)
we've lost enough with deer leasing becoming some popular...the nesting bird thing i'm on the fence about. Go out to Tri-valley and see how often you see anyone out there looking for nesting birds ? Turkey Hunters lol....We are going to have to form our own association our federation as houndsmen/women to represent our interests...squeaky wheels get oiled that's just the nature of things.

I'm glad that they tabled it. But here is an idea. When I first joined a coon hunting club we invited our game warden to come to a meeting and give his input to the club. I think if this was done by every club to have contact with their game warden and propose a dog training area for each county. This way your club would have a better voice when issues like this come up. This is my thought and my thought only.
It's a step in the right direction.. we need things like this to make the sport more public and make sure they don't forget about us...

Why I oppose the April closing.
I'm opposed to this because of this. This was an article I read poste by ODNR.

How does it effect nesting birds to rabbit and coon hunt?
How can we work with turkey hunters so that we do not disturb their hunt? Sometimes running dogs in one area can move the turkeys out of that area and into the area of a turkey hunter. What if a turkey hunter posted his/her GPS location? Sportsmen should always try to work together.
Cancelling local and major events that use public ground would hurt many more than it would help. Every event gives the state of Ohio an economy boost. When you cancel every event from every registry the collective loss is huge. Yes the clubs will loose and the many sportsmen loose. The biggest financial losses are for things like gas, food, lodging, shopping,... all of the employees and owners loose. Who actually wins?
It would be better to facilitate working with the turkey hunters. Have never seen a turkey hunter in the places that I run dogs. I have worked with Deer Bow Hunters. This can be done in a way that actually enhances their hunt. Dan M
