Thank you for your response!!

Ive had her get out to almost a mile but they usually dont get that far to find a coon here if there moving. But 800 to a 1000 yds is her typical distance she hunts out.

Just my 2 cts. 820 yds. on this Hazel I consider real good for the amount of coon she had. It's built in her-A NATURAL
we just had her two mo. now I looked it up,I hope you can get to hunt her all of Oct. = Nov. Before she comes in heat.

I feel honoured that this young man feels the way he does about me, I am old & still have my heart into these Redbones but cant hunt any more, its funny how things happen, I started our coon club in 1962 in my house, we called it Rocky River Coon Club Inc. & we now have a club house on 10 acres , in Torrington Ct. way back then I became friends of a club member Joe Erho that would be Jeremy's Grandfather.

I watch these posts on Redbones & can say the Reds Came a long ways since 1958 when I first got started
when I made a couple of Nt. Ch. back then it was 3 hr. hunts, & seamed like it would never end. There are a lot of great Reds to cross a female with now a days & the computer sure has brought more info. forward on the traits of males & females & what style you like to hunt. [ A lot easier now ] in stead of snail mail, yrs ago

Ive got a female with about as much T Top in her as yours has. I went to GrNtCh Crooked River Turkey. I had the best litter Ive raised and now have what I think might be the best male I have owned out of that cross. Turkey is in Missouri but his GrNtCh brother Mac (different than outlaw mac)was in Pennsylvania last I knew. I would go there or any either of Wade Kuhns males. Bus or Big Red

Consider an out cross to Aftershock. The dog went around winning all his life with a bunch of different handlers. I never heard anything but good about Shock. He's bred to reproduce too.

Oh yeah, isn't Nt Ch Goose out of Moose and a sister to Shock? I heard that she was a pretty nice hound.

Shock is one of my favorites....looked at many a coon with him. Bred Breanna to him her last heat cycle and hearing really great comments about those pups who are only about 6 mo old. Also followed Bree's mommy Deana who is also Shock's littermate sister many nights as well. Good solid coon dogs....big winners ....proven reproducers.

Now I like shock but isnt he 80#+ Im looking for a smaller built stud. I like big dogs but they dont like our hills and humidity. Im straight forward if I wasnt trying to size them down a bit I think he would be a great choice.Unless Im wrong about his size?

Not good but that was there only concern for years.

Im looking to find a smaller stud with the proper traits size is not my only concern but if I can get the hunt style I like and size it down why not?
If it came to it I would breed to a larger male.But I think there is enough stud options out there I should be able to find a male that is smaller and produces coondogs. If you change something it may improve it or make it worse dont know till ya try.

Again I dont know what Im doing with this breeding stuff and the input is great anyones input nobodys wrong in a world of opinions! I feel the more I listen and learn from all of you older folks Ill be able to combine as much knowledge as possible can never stop learning new stuff.

Sorry If anything I say sounds snarcky I hate typing try to keep it short and sweet and I dont know how to make the fancy faces in post like Richard.

I heard the ripsaw dog was smaller dog but he looks like hes well put together. Not sure if hes that small or not but a fellow I know bred a female to him and said they thought he would need a stool to stand on to reach her. Shane has video of him too I think. The dirty joe dog looks like a smaller type hound too. I like them small too. But the bloodlines I like are usually alot taller than I prefer. But they tree the crap out of coons so ill deal with it. Besides I heard size doesnt matter

The line I have gotten into(t-top) is big but the tree coons with style I would never sacrifice hunting ability for size but like I said If I can get both why not. My female(Hazel)' is lucky if she ways 40#. So if I could find a male in the 60# range or less it would be nice.

We are looking into Ripsaw.

I dont know much about Dirty Joe Whats his voice like? Hows he built size feet etc... What is his hunt style?Pedigree?

The mountains I hunt here close home are just giant glorified rock piles its rough on the big 80# dogs in the dead of summer I dont blame them Im not any better.

You need to look into Gr Nite Ch Locked And Loaded Jake HTX. I hunted with him when Mr Swan owned him. He is around 50 to 55 lbs, beautiful dark cherry red. Super nice little Coondog. Bawl on track, good hard chop on tree, and could be a top reproducer if used. There is still a thread on him under the redbone stud section with pictures and pedigree. He has Yellow River, Sandy Creek Jake and T Top breeding.

You might want to check with that friend of P Mike's that they call "Barnyard". I hear that he is the breeder of that T-Top hound in the finals of the World Hunt this weekend. I don't think that dog is very big.

I guess that it all depends on if you are looking at pups that will make better comp dogs or pleasure hounds. I don't think that Shock had any trouble in all of those comp hunts that he won during the hot summer months.

All are pretty big dogs....65lbs or so I would guess.
If your looking for something smaller...you might check into something going back to the Too The Max dog that is the sire of Cloud and Amber....he was a smaller dog and threw some smaller dogs. Max was out of Timber Jack.
Had a big blocky head on him and a big loud mouth but was probably a 45-50 lb dog.

Where we run hunts up here the countrys rough rocky and the hunts are almost all in the dead of summer.Im not looking to anger anyone I just know what I am looking for Im sure there has to be studs out there throwing competitive dogs that are a bit smaller there are so many
I like to hunt 5 6 nights a week to keep them in shape Im looking for a competition dog but I want to be able to hunt them as much as I can.Winter already steals a couple months here.
I saw the difrence with Hazel and the others in the heat it doesnt slow her down as much.

Id love to see shock go his abilitys could blind size factor but id want to see him hunt in person.Heck Id like to see them all hunt in person.

65# is not to big. Thats about what Im looking for maybe a little smaller but in that area.

I want to try and get a happy medium when its cool the smaller dogs cant touch the leggy ones when its hot visa versa. Id just like to get somewhere in the middle.

Imo size isn't the factor in the hotter months, yes we all don't want big dogs. But you think about it, if a dog has the 'DRIVE'' that evens things out if they are in shape, run 5-6 nights a week for 3 0r 4 hours or more. Lets look at some of the dogs of the past, and I know you are not familiar with them you being newer to the breed, but Famous Amos was a larger dog and also Smokey mt Brandy was a good size dog, and there are others too, I've been up your way so I know what some of your hunting terrain looks like, but I've also been to where Amos & Brandy hunted and its no picnic there either.
IMO if a dog has the drive & hunted into shape they can satisfy me. big dogs win just as smaller ones do, its a whole lot hotter down South and in Texas that it is up North where we are from, its all in the drive and condition of the hound. but really agree on liking a male dog 55=75 pounds. Big dogs win and little dogs win, drive, condition and mouth are my choices.
Good luck with whatever you choose and its all about getting the pups into the hands of those who will get them in the woods and put time into the pups.
you have a great bred female and I know you can match her up with a Great bred male and have some WINNERS
