Does the age of the male effect the number of pups thrown, what ages do you usually avoid? Trying to gain some info, i appreciate and respect what you do with redbones and i hope to have a successful kennel someday. Thank you

The male...usually any male of any age produces enough semen to produce thousands of pups. But the female only releases so many eggs during her cycle which can be fertilized. From what i understand it can be anywhere from 10-as many as 30. Usually there are more fertilized than the total final pup count at birth but the females body absorbs the extra fertilized eggs and only a certain number are allowed to mature into healthy pups. So the number of pups is determined by the female. The sex of the pups is however influenced by the male to a minor degree.

Me and ole Mac waiting out the snow apocalypse that's hit the south so we can get back to these long legged ruttin coons...hopefully back at it full swing by midweek. I heard the female pup off Mac's first litter is coming this way to a fella not too far from me, that's exciting to hear as it sure can't hurt to get his seed into NC.

was going through the old video archive and found this video of a very young year old Ky Moonlight Kate. she was a year old and Nt.Ch. but not yet Grand Nite. We had just bred her to Billy The Kid semen so a little baby Mac was brewing in there somewhere listening to his momma tree a Michigan swamp coon

Well, in his case that would likely not be true, he's having to work much harder here. You may need a helicopter to track him now.

2014 top ten performance point redbone winners...Gr.Nt.Ch. Moonlight Outlaw Mac was 5th overall for the year after getting a late start as a 2 year old. He had relatives Outlaw Cherry Bomb, Jim Bob and Outlaw G-Man on the list to keep him company...

2015 top ten performance point redbone winners...Gr.Nt.Ch. Moonlight Outlaw Mac was 2nd overall for the year as a 3 year old, bested by his cuz, Nt.Ch. Moonlight Trip in the #1 spot and his other Cuz, Dual Grand Ch. Outlaw G Man in his old #5 spot followed by another cousin named Goose in the #6 slot.
We like what we are breeding and hunting and they seem to be moving in the right direction!

Well, I'm down to my last week and a half with Mac here in the promised land of western NC. It's been a blast. He was good from the first drop but I can say he's progressed even further since that first night. He developed his own style for working the ridges, hollers and creek beds to learn how to take hold of one and he sounds like a million dollars doing it. I only comp hunted one weekend with Mac as Shane's main goal was to expose him to strange territory and thin coon, so that's exactly what I did. I will say that particular week leading up to the comp hunts was our only "off" week, he was strangely out of character but by the next week he was "back". Anyhow, taking a dog to a place like this is a true test in my opinion. I know somewhere, maybe, somebody has some rougher territory than myself, but it's a workout for man and hound at times and if a coon ain't there waiting for you when you arrive...well, most should be smart enough to change dogs or quit, and Mac didn't let me down.

One other thing, Mac has a handle that was instilled into him and was clearly done EXACTLY how it should have been done. He is textbook in many departments.

Many thanks to Shane and Danny for allow me (and my boys!) to hunt Mac, I got to see first hand a strong product of Billy the Kid and another line of redbones since I've changed my breed preference. Few people have allowed me that opportunity.

I failed to notice I had already posted those pics, here are a couple more from Friday night, a super windy, snow blowing, cold hunt for us. Made one drop but he quickly found a good track, worked about 3/4 mile that ended on a rock bluff den hemlock.

Trip needs another win or two to finish to Grand Nite Champion. She is currently bred to Woody but Danny has talked about breeding her to Mac the next go round after she Grands. There are a couple more females we are looking at as well. The trouble I have is that most of my Grand Nite females including Breeze who just needs a couple wins to Grand....are all out of Billy The Kid who is the same daddy of Mac. So we are hoping to attract some females from similer but different bloodlines. His first cross was to a full littermate sister to Gr.Nt.Ch. Nighty Nite Little T and they are just weaned. At 3 Mac is still proving himself in competition and will be in some big hunts in different registries this year to test him and see how he stacks up against top level dogs. We really like him and expect him to do well in competition and as a reproducer, but it will take time to let that play out.

We could only make it Saturday night but after a 12 hour drive down we drew a good cast and Mac treed two coons off to himself to win 1st place Grand Nite Champion and high scoring dog on Saturday at Southern Redbone Days

Lots of talk on the interweb lately by people who say they know what it takes to win...everything from cross breeding to cage training etc...
But Mac is just a full blooded, early starting, natural from birth, independent, stay put, real live wild raccoon treeing redbone who don't read all that advise that seems to be piling up against him and what he is...
He comes from a long line of winners and he just does what comes natural. He made 5 trees in two rounds of hard hunting two coons and three dens and everyone was a first tree..most were deep and alone.
Mac's sister Outlaw Cherry Bomb won this same hunt last year and was the 2015 PKC Redbone Days Champion and both dogs win by doing their own work and putting real live wild raccoons up a tree and staying till you get there. There are so many differing opinions these days on what it takes to win and how dogs should be bred and how they should be trained. Many of these opinions are put out there by people who have never won anything noteworthy...but hey...its a free country right...so anyone can say anything they want.
But its up to the individuals in this breed to do the homework and see through all the hype and figure out just who is talking the talk and who is walking the walk.
Last time I checked...Mac doesnt talk...but he sure does make me walk
