I know a few people that always taste new dog food before they feed it to their dogs.

I always enjoy these discussions and it usually results in about 30 different recommendations.

I've been happy with the results we are getting with Pro Plan Performance 30/20 so far. I pay around a dollar a pound for it. We mix in the Pro Plan Focus Puppy when on the road which helps increase energy and water intake. Dogs love it and they look good on it. I like the pop top cans too and you never know when you might need survival food on the road.

I've heard good things about Eukanuba Performance 30/20 as well. Haven't tried it yet but I've fed and sold Eukanuba previously for over 20 years. This company went through some transition issues but it looks like they got things rolling again and are putting out high quality products once again. Back in the day Iams/Eukanuba was the best and you paid for it too. I remember in 1990 paying around $60 for a 40 pound bag of Eukanuba F/P (white fish and potatoe). Now we sell 27.5# of Hills Prescription Diet Z/D Ultra for $90.

Have my pup on

Purina one puppy and I've noticed he is eating grass and stuff. Isn't that from something from the diet? I'm looking for something new..thought about red flannel and get it here local. Can't find anyone who carries red river.

It can be diet related. They tend to chew on grass and lick dirt to buffer their stomachs at times. Can be just habit too.

Check out Canidae Pure Grain Free. That company started near me and I've been really impressed with how well my clients dogs do on it. They have a Sky , Sea and Land formula. The Sky and Sea are very popular. Only 8 ingredients and no fillers. High quality list of nutrients. I've recommended their All Life Stages diet for years for dogs with chronic ear and skin problems. The Pure line is fairly new in the last couple years.

I switched from Purina Dog Chow to Diamond. Then I tried Pride Pro Series and will not own nothing else ! It is what works best for my hounds not saying that that Purina , Black gold, diamond, victor, etc are not good feed. Feed the Pro Series 26/20 to the hounds I hunt and then I feed the Puppy Pride 30/20 to my old dogs and bred females.

I've used pride in the past 26/18, and had my pups on that. The dealer here just carries the orange, black and I believe puppy. And that coonhunter version which looks like crap..think I'll just put him on pride puppy..

I buy that coonhunter version in the camo bag for my coon feeder "can't beat it $15/50lb but I'd never feed it to my dog LOL. I feed the 26/18 myself but I know allot of people that feed the black bag it's 24/20 and a little bit cheaper than the 26/18.

I though every body tried it before you let your dog eat it. No I don't eat it lol just a poor way of talking I guess. They seem to like it I like how they look.

I've always had good results with pride, but always fed them 26/18(green bag), or the bright orange pro series , or black bag which is pretty much a maintenance feed..

I bought some sport mix wholesomes lamb and rice today so I guess I will see how they do on it.

When I buy my Pride I only get the pro series and puppy. If they are out of the orange back of pro series I get the lime green bag and the puppy. But I won't feed the black bag it seems to make mine crap 3 times as much when I fed it

I bought two bags of 26/18 pride and did a side by side taste test with the two brands I've been feeding, I'm not saying the dogs will do good on pride but it won the test on four doggies, they loved it

I got a bag of it the fish meal and rice formula one time to feed when the feed store was out of diamonds natural chicken and rice.My dogs ate it They was out of the chicken one when I got it to try. never really seen a difference in it and the diamond. Its just diamond in a different bag is all to me.Now I'm feeding them 4health salmon and potatoes. They got to where they was digging the diamond out of the feeders and wasting it.So changed to 4health to try. They eat it and doing good on it.Though I think in the long run the best dog food is the one you can afford that your dogs do good on.

This post can be similar to which truck you like the best ford, chevy, toyota etc. Do your own research and feed what is best for YOUR dogs. Mine and yours may respond differently to the same food.

They have pride kennel Pac rated better then the pride 24/20, all I hear about kennel Pac is bad, strange. Wonder if any other outfit rates dog food

Posted by Josh Michaelis on 07-21-2015 12:17 AM:

The explanations they give make sense. I was surprised to see Diamond was better than Pro Plan.

It's unfortunate that this rating site is only subjective based on the owner/author knowledge and preference in certain ingredients. This is not based on feeding trials or performance tests. In other words it is meaningless to me.

The best way to rate a dog food is on quality control and results. This site doesn't give any value to quality control. Their top rated diets have some of the worst recall records and are under investigation for fraudulent labeling of their diets.

The two companies with the highest quality control standards (Hills and Royal Canin) are rated low because they use corn in their diets. The healthiest dogs I've seen in my hospital were on these diets.
