-- where has coonhunting gone (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928419515)
I get what you are saying. You can never hunt a coon dog too much, that is for sure. But there is a big difference between constructive hunting and just going out and dumping dogs in the woods. The difference in the two is knowledge. Knowing what to do is important, but never sell knowing what not to do short either.
Back when I first started seriously coon hunting, which was around 1984 or so, there wasn't too many guys that hunted as often and as hard as me and a few of my buddies. I actually had a guy have a heart attack in the woods with me one night...I still feel bad about that even though he is gone. We truly believed that if we just put our dogs in the woods as often as possible they would get better each time. We had heard it so many times from the older crowd, get those dogs in the woods.
Well, all of our dogs did get better each time...better at running junk, better at not doing what they were supposed to, etc. I took a break from coon hunting for a while and when I got back into it I didn't do it lightly...first of all, it is way too expensive to buy all the gear and equipment, get, feed, raise, try to train dogs and then not do it as best and intelligently as you possibly can. I aint saying this is the only way and I aint saying it is for everyone. Some guys are just flat slap lucky...go buy a pup, never take it to a vet, no heartworm prevention, dump it right out on a highway, etc., and the dog will practically grand itself and never think about running off game. Unfortunately, that aint me. I just don't seem to be able to guess the best most effective way to train dogs and coon hunt, at least I was never good at it before, so this time I depend on getting as much info as I can and then deciding which ones to try. I still doubt I will ever be famous, but I am a lot happier this go around with the results. Now if any one thinks that's a bad thing it is their's to get over.

I just have higher expectations for someone so prominent in the sport like Scott Engle. What a fine example that was for all the youth hunters and new people to the sport. Scott accomplished a TON in this sport but what happened calls into question all of his wins does it not?
Also I don't need a world beater to have an opinion *******, you can cash that at your bank :-)
? If me or you did it would we just got a smack on the back of the hand

There have been several times I wanted to do the same thing myself the buddy vote thing Is my worst pet peev I have no ax to grind with Scott he deserves a lot of credit he worked hard at it probly in the woods a lot of nights when some of us say it's to bad to go but as a moh I have seen other people in the same situation get treated differently ( treat everybody the same)
HOLD ON GUYS YOU DUN WENT WAY TO FAR
This started out one way and is going another !!!!! WRONG !!!! JUST MY OPINION don't know Scott and never had the pleasure of shaking his hand (if I wanted to or not). BUT where coonhunting is going and Scott has nothing in common. As far as his line of dogs they ain't BLACK so I don't care. As I said. jmo

On the breeds on the treeing walker section sombody started a thread it was uninteresting so several try to make it more interesting ( stir the board a little ) then when you do you get told you went way overboard !! I guess we could always talk about dog food , lights , boots , coon squallers , or getting cheated, aaaaaaaaagain lol.
my whole point is. this good ol interweb is here for hunters to talk hunting an anything they want too.. i understand some people are all about stats just like in baseball or football... i grew up with a light on my head an a dog lead in my hand.. hunting dogs. an i hope my great grand kids can grow up the same way..if you wana set an look at statistics all day watch a ball game.. i would really rather ask a coonhunter bout a dog or hunt with it.. if i ofend anybody sorry in advance. but thats how i feel..
have a nice day

I guess I will say it like this he who is without sin throw the first stone but there is one moh we are all going to have to answer to and he knows about all of it ! As I am setting here I can tell you in my younger days there wasent anybody that wanted to win any worse than I did hot headed, sarcastic , I should probly got some time outs too but there were a couple of men that came along well known hunters father figures because growing up mine was to drunk to be one they taught me somthing more important than winning they taught me how to loose they taught me how to respect my elders they taught me if you put your time in at home hunting it's easier to win in a hunt if I ever offend anybody I don't mean to just having a little fun with y'all !!!
Im sitting here at work. Had to look at the radio to see if it was in fact on a country station. It was. Now that should kinda explain where its went Jason
