You'll get a pass in the mail with your nite hunt confirmation form. Just remember to hang it on your mirror. And don't let your brothers steal it.

Oaks

I was there many times and it was like a annual get together of old friends and made many new ones, hate to see it fade into the sunset as it appears that will slowly happen, I really miss Kenton also, hit Kenton then on to Oaks, this must be a sign that i'm gettin to be over the hill.

I bet it just ends up being $5 less people are gonna spend in the kitchen or with the vendors.

I think it will drive some off myself. Even if it is just $5 I mean us coonhunters will pay it but those that just come to look and see what's happening I dont think will. I know that a lot of non coonhunters attend events of this size to. It would be about like me going to pay to watch a horse show. Aint no way. I wouldn't give 50 cents to do that

Just a last thought :

I'm 70 years old and in my lifetime I've paid to see many things including concerts , car shows , dog races , horse races , car races , boat races , snowmobile races , various types of ball games and can't even remember all the stuff the kids and grandkids have got me into plus big money to have a cell phone in my pocket so I'm no stranger to paying to get in for the soul purpose of watching something I'm not competing in .
This is something I've spent a lifetime doing because I like it and it's for me . I owe a dog nothing but care but the sport itself has and does entertain me . I hope to spend a few more years doing what I enjoy and maybe watching after that .
$5 or even $10 won't stop me if I want to do it , never has before when fees went up .

Enjoy it while you still can it's changing fast and that may stop me . Local events around here often don't draw enough people to make it worth going to so I'm seeing the big events as our last big deal while they last .

Posted by deschmidt27 on 05-28-2015 02:01 PM:

Amen Dale!

I know it used to be free and now they're going to charge. And so that stings a bit. But like Dale, I pay to park at the local fair, at the local car show, at the local tractor pull, etc. and those are small events. I pay when I go to see a hunting expo or fish and boat expo, so I don't really see the difference in paying to spectate at this event.

And so that's my answer to Seth's original question. As long as they don't charge extra for the participants...

I am surprised it has taken UKC this long to start charging, I will pay the $5.00, you have to pay at most public events anyways, like Fairs, Concerts, Downtown parking, Airports, Hospitals, etc., etc.
If you want to go, you will pay.....😉

Just think of the extra $5.00 as one less ice cream cone

I saw in the magazine that the camping will be the same, after Thursday it's free. So will someone be coming around to collect money for 'parking'? My other question is how do you get insurance on a rented or borrowed golf cart?

Posted by newport on 05-28-2015 06:06 PM:

ya know i understand that money adds up and not everyone has alot of it including myself but it is five dollars if your driving any kind of distance to get to the oaks that could be the diffrence in gas is 2.50 or gas is 2.70 are you not going to go if gas is 20 cents more prob. not i dont understand what the big stink is about and so what if ukc is getting the money its just your way of helping them keep having events like this if it wasnt for us paying for things in the first place they couldnt even do it and the big thing to top it all off is if your hunting you dont have to pay it anyway so why make the big fuss i would go if it was 20 bucks i love going to the oaks i would still pay it even if it was in my front yard its like a big family reunion of so many frinds i dont regularly see thats what its all about to me so if five dollors is going to keep you from coming rethink your dission that mite be just not drinking a couple mtdews the week before and it goes back to a kennel club that gives us these hunts to enjoy anyway if your not coming because of five dollars you will be missed by some ppl that you mite only see once a year and that is worth my five bucks seeing great hounds work is worth my five bucks and just being able to say i got to enjoy another oaks is def. worth my five bucks!

I agree with Matt and with what Shane said... they're a business, and businesses exist to make money. It seems like too many people believe that companies should be not-for-profit like they're the Peace Corp!

Now... if Tanya was flying down to Richmond in UKC's corporate jet, while they were doubling entry fees, then that would be a different story! But I believe they are far from that. So if they need to generate revenue to incentivise them to stay in business and provide us a service, then so be it.

Pay

Good to hear all the difference of opinions on this topic. Thanks to Allen for giving us the reasoning for the fee to get in. Autumn oaks is a great event and if u have never hunted in it u should try it at least one time. It's really no different than any other hunt. U draw out with 3 other hounds and hope u get a good guide. Thanks Seth

I would dare say rentals are insured,,as for borrowed,,call your auto insurance company,,they should be able to cover it,,,I insure mine with my auto insurance company and it only cost me $14.02 for (liability) for a full year
