Some of the greatest coon dogs of any breed were deer runners at an early age... If a dog can smoke a deer he has potential. Just a matter of getting him on the right game. How many pups have you had that wouldn't hunt or run anything?....

My two best Grand Nights never ran a deer. I'm not say I've never had a dog run junk. If they did they got busted hard for it or "started a new life."

Whats worse these "coondogs" that take 2 hrs to get treed on a cold track. Or a dog that puts a hole in the nite bumps a deer because there so dam fast falls off and slams a coon within 5 min of being cut loose. A dog isen't a coondog if it runs a deer lol. Well I have news for you I don't know if we have ever had a world champ that hasen't treed a possum or bumped a deer every now and again. Give me a dog that bumps a deer here and there any day over these me too, dog tracking won't leave your feet when cut loose alone P.O.S.

Sounds like they have been around the block more than once and have a good ideal of what a coondog is. I drew this young lady out one night and she made us cut loose with a herd of deer 50 yards from us. Yes her dog was usually struck close to the minute but her dog was treed in 2 or 3 minutes as well witha coon all night. We took a waxing that night, it was the best blk and tan I had been to the woods with in a long time. She wasent afraid to put that dog on paper that either. Dog and handler were class acts.

Posted by Randy Tallon on 05-16-2015 09:55 PM:

I wouldn't call anybody or anything a class act if they know their dog will strike on anything, especially a deer, and they turn you loose on a herd of deer. Like I said in my earlier post...that is what some cheaters like to refer to as a coon dog. A coon dog runs COON. As far as babble around on a old track it's quite evident she hasn't hunted with me.

The point she was making was she new her dog wasen't going to run trash, she wanted to see if our dogs would. I can see she must have ruffled your feathers at some point in time for you to call her a cheater. You stated she has, never hunted with you so you obobviously have never been "cheated" by her, maybe you have been cheated by others and this is a sore subject for you so you are projecting your anger towards someone else idk. I do know that the dog she was packing that night was a coondog. If I hunted black dogs that's the dog I would try and get my hands on.

Posted by Randy Tallon on 05-17-2015 01:24 PM:

When she quotes me and then makes insinuations she is pointing directly at me. Before she runs her gums she might want to check the opposition that she is making insinuations about before she makes them. If you run a dog in anything other that a registered cast and that dog strikes on anything other than a coon that dog is to be scratched. If the dog and the handler get away with it you tell me what it is other than...cheating.

Did I say "MY" dog runs deer???? I said I would much rather have a dog that at least can tree a coon in a reasonable amount of time that gets in the timber, rather than a cold track running sorry sob. I sure the he!! would rather draw a deer runner than have to cut back into a dog that can't get treed in a patch woods all nite. A dog can be broke of deer, I don't know how to brake a dog off stupid. I would consider a cheater that guy that brings a MEAN dog to the hunt, or a dog tracking me 2 son of a gun or anyone that brings a dog that can not tree a coon or run a track alone. As for myself I won't take a dog to a hunt if it's not ready and my ruin someone else's hunt,, that just not right. And I know of a lot of good comp. dogs that do not run deer. The point I was making is EVERY dog has run trash at some point in it's life, most people that say there dog hasen't if full of crap, or clueless. So to say a dog that has treed or run off game a time or two in it's life is not a coondog is rediculess.

The Judge who are you? I make cast cut on deer all the time to see who has done there homework, because I know I don't have to worry about it.

Seeing you have all the answers I'll leave you with this. I've buried more good dogs than you've handled. I think you know exactly who The Judge is.
