I have had the best success feeding Black Gold Performance Blend 26/18. Dogs have lots of stamina and don't get fat. Shiny coats and great muscle tone. Black Gold is very supportive hunting and the owners are hunters as well.
Adios,
Gary
Dog food threads always interest me. I agree with several posts on this thread. Feed the best you can that doesn't break the bank. Use what works for you and let the dogs health and performance be the judge.
The dog food advisor does give accurate information on feed ingredients that are provided by the manufacturer. So if you decide to put "no weight in them at all " that's your business.
What I want in my dog food is consistency. I want every bag I purchase to be the same as the bag I fed last month or last year. After all I'm happy with my dogs health and performance so I want to keep his nutrition consistent. And this is where the problem lies. Even though the ingredient list and percentages remain constant on the bag , where the ingredients come from and their quality does not. If bulk loads of chicken fat 'or any other ingredient' are slightly cheaper at a different processor the manufacturer will change suppliers. This is what changes the consistency and quality of the product.
I have hauled thousands of loads of ingredients to animal feed manufacturing mills. My experience has been the bigger the feed mill the more suppliers used to supply the same ingredient. And this affects consistency and quality.
I used Purina Pro Plan for years and dogs did fine on it. I definitely did not like cleaning up the big piles of soft stool. Have recently and slowly switched to Victor Yukon River and Victor Premium. So far I'm extremely happy with the Victor product. I'm sure another dog food thread will pop up 6 months from now and I will have a more accurate opinion about Victor dog food.
Victor all the way
Victor feeds are high quality and dogs require less feed and make less stools because it is highly digestible and the nutrients are absorbed instead of passed through the gut. Nice firm stools easy to clean. Dogs flourish on this feed with fewer allergies and skin problems associated with high grain content feeds. Look at the label of most dog feeds and find that corn is the number one ingredient.
