I wont call any man a lier unless we are standin toe to toe but will say around here if you walk to 100 trees that all have a coon in them you wont find 90% of em.

lol it's sad too see how many folks have never been with a coondawg that will check a track and tree to be absolutely sure the coon is in the tree they settle on ,and then assume that the folks that have owned these dogs are just blowing smoke . these threads all ways end up that way . it use to be the norm now it's considered an impossible dream lol

"I only hunt accurate track driving hounds!!! That's a coon dog" says one coonhunter " really how many coon you tree last night?"asks a friend
"1 for 1 plus 2 holes and we lost one in a brush pile." says the Hunter.

I have owned COONDOGS and I have been in the woods and drew COONDOGS, but I am not fool enough to believe that a dog don't miss coons. I have a one now that I consider extremely accurate, but she is not 100%. Yes I have had night that she was 100% but I have also had night when she just didn't perform like I know she can. I feel very confident when she trees I will see a coon, but dang if sometimes , either I can't find the coon or she just flat out gets one put on her. We will have perfect dogs when we become perfect people. I cant stand a dog that misses or pulls up short . But if we shot or sold ever dog that misses none of us would own a hound.

I have come to find there are multiple definitions/interpretations of accuracy. It all depends on who you ask
Until a common definition of accuracy is agreed upon, the percentages will be all over the map.

Accuracy
What you people are missing on here is AGE. I started Hunting with my Father and his friends in 1935. Their dogs were not straight Coon dogs, nor were they Registered;but; they never false treed, There was a Coon are Opossum up 100% of the trees.
I agree, and go along with everyone that says there isn't a dog alive today that will not false tree;but; to say there has never been one, is very wrong, you just don't go back far enough and won't believe the ones who do.
When competition hunting started in '48, the Coon hunting world started changing and has never quit. My age bracket will be the last to remember what pre competition hunting was like. Around age 70 on down don't know.
There should be a country and western song called "Accurate Dogs Don't Lie"...Hank jr would have to sing it...lol
I agree. There is coondogs and then there is dogs that will tree a coon but there is nobody on here that can HONESTLY (I am sure some of you don't know the definition of that) say they've hunted a dog a lot and it not miss a coon. Unless they are hunting middle of summer and counting spider eyes like they do in the hunts.

2010 SETWA BREEDER OF THE YEAR!!
Accuracy is the key in any hound or breed. Now add in speed + accuracy and then my friend you have a real hound.
I was in a cast several years ago with my Old Grand Nite Diamond female, she was in her prime at that time.
She had just came out of heat and she hadn't been hunted in weeks and was fat. it was around 80 degrees when we turned loose.
Other 2 dogs drew a bunch of minus and Diamond treed 4 singles and after the cast the judge said I like that dog. She's nothing special she just trees coon after coon.
Well my friends that's the supreme goal we all have. To own dogs that simply tree coon after coon.
Some try to put a % on accuracy and that's really not realistic. When you hear your hound come treed and you know what your going to see when you get to the tree that to me defines accuracy. If you have hunted that dog for a while and still aren't sure what your walking to then that defines a in-accurate hound.

I've hunted hard nearly 40 years an NEVER seen a 90or95 percent coondog when I was looking for a stud to breed to I done a lot of traveling looking for one or a pup out of one that they claimed would an after driving 2,4,6 hour ALWAYS got the same results not even 80percent so I say come an show me that 90percent dog I've done my traveling still looking for that special dog to raise a litter out of an don't care about color Have a great day an thanks for reading
There may be a little too much all or nothing thinking on this thread. I've been coon hunting for 55 years and I've had a few very accurate dogs. And I've had a few inaccurate dogs. It's a lot easier to remember the big oaks with the big boar coon than it is to remember a slick tree from 40 years ago. I don't think it was either as good then or as bad now as some of us try to make it sound. They all have faults and we each have to decide what we will tolerate.
Swampplots I agree totally I'm not an old man but I can never remember not seeing a coon or opossum in a tree with my grandfather's ole hounds Imyself have a female walker now that I love she is not straight will tree a opossum now and then she only hunts out bout 500 yards if she doesn't strike anything she will check back in I keep a record of my hunts since January 1st she has made 53 trees with either a coon or opossum with 2 slick and 3 times made her circle and came back in she's not perfect and his defiantly not a competition dog but I love her to death kennel quite and has a great handle she may miss occasionally and even tree a opossum every once and awhile but she will die right here in my yard.
That's the problem, how are we all defining accuracy ? To me a possum in a tree is not a slick tree. Now it's not a coon. No. But it's not slick.
i got a lil ole cur here that aint slicked or treed a den tree since last sept.when coon season was in. ive treed more coons with this dog then any dog ive had in a few years. he wasnt bred to have the loudest mouth,or the hardest tree dog or to look cute,he was bred to tree real coons thats up the tree hes barking up period. i know a lot of people dont like this kind of dog but i like him pretty good.i can putup with a lot of holes in a dog but false treeing aint one of em.lol

I truly feel bad for some of you guys!!!! Why would you hunt a dog 3+ years old that doesn't show you a coon 90% of the time? I'm talking coon seen not a coon could be there either!!! It's either plus it up or it's a bad tree!!!Maybe I've just been spoiled with the hounds I've hunted......but really if a dog is gonna throw its head back and make me walk. I expect to see a coon!!! I under stand a dog can't be expected to have a coon 100% of the time. Sometimes the dog just misses but really your OK with 50,60,70,80% of the time finding a coon? I expect my dog to continue trailing until it finds the right tree, if my dog treed just to tree I'm sending it down the road.
