Ray dogs
Not a myth lol a buddy of mine just raised a litter off mr rays blue dogs an is wantin me to try a couple. Way he talks they decent trail dogs that a fairly smart.they are not a reg bluetick they are a mixed breed that are dominantly blue though. That comes from the horses mouth.
Wonder how good they would out cross. I would like to find a pup. But I also have a real nice Smoky River / Uchtman female That I have been thinking about breeding some where down then road.
1Alockridge what does the utchman bring to the cross with the smokey river? How's their grit

Cross
I'd say they'd outcross well, I've been told they do anyways, there a mixed breed that have been line bred enough to throw dominating traits, so id try to match there strengths with another mix cross
Smoking_Bluedog im not really sure what the utchman bring to the cross. The female I have has lots of drive has real good speed and is not suicidal but stay right in there on a mean bear.
I have seen pics of them they're some good looking hounds look like good sized too. Thanks TBBLUE

John Ray Hounds
I got my John Ray pup on it's first Bobcat kill. I put her down with my lead dog. She cold trailed right along (about a half hour) Was right there when it was jumped. She's got a high fast chop. The wind was blowing 20 to 30 and her chop sure helped me hear better. They put the cat by me once and she was right there tight to the lead dog. Treed this 30lb. Tom in about an hour. She was there, but wasn't treeing when I got there. It took about 45 minutes to get to them. I shot it out to them and she really liked it. This was only her second run. She went good on that run too, but we put it up some rocks and didn't get it. I like my hound. If she makes a great hound, I'll get with John and breed her the way he thinks I should..Love them Rays!
Look on my web site if you want pictures i got my dogs form JOHN RAY & CLIFF GARVER A LONG TIME AGO I grow up with them dogs

My Bess dog is utchman/Cameron and is better then any ray dog I have had, I have seen some Camphouse, jonet, tuff luck plotts that's as good or better and dead end English dog just as good, and sure there's better than them out and there somewhere, I like my ray dogs but there no different then any other lines there's culls in all lines, I have culled just as many as I have keep

I Like mine, the best thing I like about them is there mouths I have three that sounds like ten,I have had good luck with all the pups i have got before 6 months old, Im not saying anything is wrong with them there just not super dogs, I have yet to have good locate and tree dog and they could have more speed, but I four pure ray dogs three grown and a pup and like all of them, the only thing I am saying is there line that's jus as good it just depends on what you like I like blue dogs
