1) Does this light have those real defined circles, rings, artifacts, or whatever one calls them in the pattern of the light's beam like the Sunfire Ultra HD and Boss Hotspot HD have?

2) Does the bottom of the battery box hang below, flush, or above the back/bottom edge of the hard-lined soft cap model? How about on the bump cap?

3)Is each click on the main beam pretty much proportionally brighter than the last or is it one of those where that last click seem to get ridiculously brighter than the next to last one?

This is the nicest light in my opinion at a great price. Nice balance, Good bright light and great Low Light as well, Good spot and Halo. The color module on the side still makes it user friendly to the guys who still like a belt light and hold the head in their hand in place of a bump cap.

First, I've not seen the boss or sunfire - so I cannot pass judgment on either. Knowing the radical process these LEDs go through to produce the higher LUX values almost certainly produce artifacts. If you do not want artifacts, I would stay with the bright white light, although most of them will have circles but not as noticeable - this is what produces some of the spill for walking.

Second, I did check the battery boxes on the soft cap and bump cap. The bump cap laying on a flat surface barely touches the table. With the soft cap, the box raises the cap up about 1 inch from horizontal.

Third, each click gets progressively brighter. From the third click to the fourth click is not proportional, however the third click is consuming 5 watts of power.
