Very good points Shane--
As far as "bad" cast, they weren't all at a young age. Seen old men call a young hunters hound, see males jump on females and take them to the ground and the best was at a Breed Day hunt when a "Big Name" breeder sat down on a stump and not help shine the tree

a lot depends on how the coons are moveing, you might tree quite a few coon 1 night and maybe not even see one the next night, with the best hunting territory you can find.I am a none hunting guide and I have guided dogs that didn't tree a coon on the outside but in other parts of the woods they seen coons laying up.they wood come back and tell me that they seen coon but the dogs didn't tree them.i always try to bring in the highest score when I take a cast out,no matter who ever is in the cast I am guideing.may the best dog win that night.Hope to you all at the World championship hunt,we finally got some rain and cooler weather should be good hunting.

Oh my goodness, I had heard rumors that UKC/PKC World Champion handler Randy Leonard had been hunting a Redbone and now I saw on another post that Mr Leonard was going to handle him at the Zone 8 hunt in Georgia. I would certainly hate to draw out against him. Tonight is the last night to practice but if they are not ready by now you had better just stay home. I bet everyone will be resting up tonight and getting ready to hit the road tomorrow.
Come on Richard---
I sure hope your better than that---1/2 way down the driveway after school we knew if there was fresh bread in the oven, coming arcross the yard from the barn we would know if we were having bacon with the eggs and at Thanksgiving could tell walking in Grandma's front door there was going to be apple pie after dinner. So I don't have to have my name "on" a score card to know alittle of what goes on when the sun sets----all you have to do is go along and "smell" what's cooking. Had good hunts with and enjoyed getting some of Terry Hayes and Robbie Farrs blood, would have loved to have gotten old Rat after hunting with him and some of his off spring with Tom and Dave.
So as what was said on another post---I like traits and style a hound produces over pedigrees and degrees.
But as far as the "type/style" that cooks in the kitchen for the BIG HUNTS, no thanks.
So I wish you all that hunt a good cold nose, open trailing Redbone the best of LUCK the next few weeks. Because unless you have Ocean Frontage in North Dakota, your will need a lot of it!!

I hope that the guys with those good cold nosed, open trailing Redbones are not counting on "Luck" to get them through. Hunting your dog every night for 30 days all by himself; getting to know exactly what he is telling you with that good open mouth; reading and studying the rules; learning to keep your cool and not getting riled up will take you a lot farther than "Luck". Also, all of the above will count a lot more than who your Judge/Guide is. A good team of dog/handler can overcome bad luck/breaks. The only problem is, there will be a lot of good teams that have done their homework hunting this weekend. If you haven't, don't blame it on "bad luck" if you get beat. Friday night is almost here. I hope that everyone is going to hit the road today and has a safe trip. Is anyone beginning to get a little nervous?
30 NIGHTS STRAIGHT!!
Holy Crap that sounds like way to much WORK and I only hunt for the FUN. But I guess if you don't have Grand Kids in sports and a pontoon to enjoy once and awhile, you can get after it.
But Grandpa always said, "There's 3 things in life you don't have to be good at to enjoy, Golf-Sex-and Coon Hunting." Well, I don't play golf, to OLD for one so I guess I'll just coon hunt!!

Myself, I would rather be good. Have you ever noticed how some dogs/handlers seem to create their own luck. A good experienced handler will find a coon if it is there even in a big leafy tree. A dog with more coon sense seems to always go the right way. A good broke dog will not stay in a hole or tile. He/she will go on and find another coon. And have you ever noticed how some handlers seem to always put forth a little more effort and work a little harder when it counts the most. They may not have the best dog but they come out ahead at the end of the night.![]()

Well tonight is the first night on the journey to the top. I don't really care who it is, I just hope that a Redbone comes out on top. Good Luck and good dog to everyone and I hope that you handlers don't let your dog down.
It looks like Brian Layton, Joe Maitland, Doug Moore, Jeff Murphy and Darrin Gher all "got lucky" last night. Now for round two tonight.

I see where Darrin won his cast with 550+ last night. I hope that he has lock jaw tonight. That we would have to make me strike or tree my dog.

The zones/semis are over. Now it is on to the Finals. Who does Flow and Boone have in common? Who does Boone and Woody have in common? Who does Boone, Woody and Calli have in common?
That they all were lucky enough to get what seemed to be a good guide at least one night and end up with a good enough score to make it through the zones

Boone and Woody both have Moonlight Kate. Boone and Flow both have Hoffmeisters Rusty Red. Boone, Calli and Woody are all Outlaws. But Kelly, you are right. There are a lot of different Breeders represented in there. The Va Cartel/T-Top, Ragged Ridge CD, Hoffmeister, Mighty Oak/Steve-O, Moonlight, Nighty Nite, Outlaw, Pepper, Ranger, Yellow River, Sawblade, Twister and Fireball guys all have somebody to root for.
Now which one is going to be the 2014 World Champion Redbone?
