One more thing, just because they start like a house a-fire, don't mean that flame will last. It's all how they finish. Once they're old enough and pretty much set in their ways, that's when you can hunt the bluetick spots right off of them! That will let you know what you have at the end. I can't hunt as hard as I used to so I need a good prospect to start with. Good luck to all with whatever your endeavors are.

young starters
I haven't been doing this all that long compared to you fellas but I have seen that if they do start young and you keep them in the timber (6-7 days) a week for months on end good bad or ugly keep them goin and don't get discussed with them they usually work most of the bugs out themselves. the combination of positive reinforcement when things are don't right and scolding when they do bad. teach that dog 'happy voice' and 'mad voice' haha being in the timber with all different dog this year (150+ days this yaer so far) teaches me every dog is different and you train every dog a little different. you have to adapt to be successful.

Ya,ll need to come to Texas. Two weeks ago started hunting a pup.
!st night 98 degrees at midnight
2nd night Tried to caught a copperhead and struck the second copperhead.
3rd night struck a 4 foot rattler on the leash
4th night got treed with bees or wasp head swollen for two days
5th night took a different pup and treed one and had a hot race but the pup dropped out of race. Found her limp not able to even lift her head but breathing. Died later that night.
I sure all those 6 month pups would have faired better. Bring them to Texas and we can weed them out in a hurry.
