Just all 'round , meat gettin' hounds.
Most these dogs being bred today don't have any desire or heart to absolutely hunt instead of eat or anything else!!!! Well when these guys are breeding two dogs which niether carry these traits the pups sure aren't gonna have it !!! And that is a trait that isn't trained into a dog it's born in them and if you think yours will change overnight and suddenly have it your lieing to yourself!!!! Now I'm not one that looks to cull in the normale method used cause as far as I'm concerned it's not the dogs fault the ones that should be culled is the ones making the crosses !!!! But they will not stay here long if they don't get gone at an early age and reality is maybe one in a hundred can take correction without given up on ya!!! But all in all as far as I'm concerned it's just as much the breeders fault as it is the dogs!!!! But he has an all grand pedigree!!! 6 generations and can throw 7 got to have him!!!!!! Lmao. We did this to ourselves bad we are the only ones who can fix it but the opportunities are running slim!!!
Traditionally speaking weren't hounds bred to work within pack not only that most hunters preferred a hound to check in and take the cold tracks and work them up.
Isn't in just the past 20 to 30 years hunters have desired independent, no reverse, medium to hot nosed, get treed quick type of hounds?
So in reality aren't the demands of many hunters today are going against 100s of years of breeding. Asking a hound to work outside of the pack, get deep alone, and stay hooked right or wrong?
Yet isn't the op referencing the hounds he used to hunt, saying the hounds of old were better then the ones of today. I personally think one can easily forget those rough nights, and sentimental memories can blind ones judgment.

I may take some heat for this but i think you nailed it. People put up with to much bs from dogs now days. Just look at some of these thread titles on here. "Hunting a 3 legged dog in hunts" LOL (may not need culled but lol all the same), "Dog hides from me when treed", "My dog is a barking idiot". Why not just get a decent dog instead of trying to fix something thats wrong with a dog mentally? At least PLEASE don't breed these types all you are gonna do is make more crazy dogs. Sorry for hi jacking the thread and sorry if I hurt anybody's feelings but I had to say it
