Give it time, had one do the same thing, he's only 13 months old, there's no rush to make him tree, it will come to him, it just takes some longer than others. Don't encourage him to tree too much, if he thinks you just want him to get treed that can lead to a bad habit.. Aka slick treeing.

I'm telling you ole hoss get you a caged coon and turn it loose close to a tree and let that pup watch it climb. My pup hadn't even thought about treeing period. I did this and you seen the video's I posted she went insane. I haven't been hunting much because we are trying to get everything lined out to move. So I can't tell you if this cured her but it sure can't hurt anything. But she did tree like crazy when I let her watch the coon climb. If this is the only dog you have I would maybe worry a little. But if you have another dog that will show you coons such as I do. When you get frustrated with the pup lay it up for a bit and hunt the other dog. I wouldn't even begin to think of getting rid of that dog until after taking season and I put a few coons out on him. Then the light switch should really switch to ON. If not then move him on....But that's my two cent's, to each his own..... If you haven't seen the video here it is.

Im gonna continue to hunt him. I got a 14 month old pup that will tree coons on any night any were so im not worried about gettin treed. I just get aggrivated sometimes when they dont do what i feel they should be doing. I know he will tree at one he sees go up a tree cause he will tree on a hang up. Im wantin him to tree up the ones he runs to the tree!!! I beleive he will in time.

I am all for giving a dog a fair shot. Some dogs seem to take advantage of every every oppertunity, while some never seem to take advantage of any. I personally hate making excuses for a dog and once i start having to do so i have a foot halfway out the door. When you have a lot of time to hunt you seem to toletate a lot more. When you are sacrificing other things to get outyou just dont have time to waste giving a dog with a good set of papers try after try. I know some turn on later and thats great if you can wait. I personally just dont have enough emotionally invested in a dog to get past a certain tolerance level. Hope he trees soon for ya.

there can be dogs of both extremes. neither will make me happy. don't like slick tree's or a dog that takes all nite to be sure it has the coon. both are worthless to me.
i would hunt that pup with a quality old pup trainer till it starts treeing correctly. i also wouldn't let it just walk away from the coon trees. tone it back to the tree and tie it there.

To each his own but I have never had a dog that made what I wanted in the end, that had to be talked into doing its job. They all came by it naturally. I have had dogs that ran and treed coons and I had to work on them to get them to do it, but in the end none of them ever satisfied me.

Ole hoss, I took my pup hunting last night and she was first strike on the only track we ran all night. My 3.5 year old fell in with her and they did put the coon up. I heard the old dog locate and knew it wouldn't be much longer. I heard him located one more time and set down treed. I then heard the pup start tree barking also and stayed put and was barking off and on for about 15 minutes or so.. When I had gotten as close as I could with the truck I stopped and put my snake chaps on to head to them. I didn't hear the pup. I locked the truck door and got my lead and there she was at the back of the truck. I looked at her and said, " What are you doing little girl?" "You go get back on that tree, Get him girl." She turned and went right back to the tree and started barking. I got to the tree and seen Mr.coon and loved her up real good. So she did leave the tree but went right back. She did mill around the tree some when I got there but never left. I wouldn't say the letting her watch it climb 100% cured her but it did make a HUGE Improvement. She has went from doing nothing on a tree to now she still mills around some but will tree bark. Here's the sad thing, We are moving to Lexington the place we are moving too allows no outside dogs. The place my dad lives here allows no pets. Dad wants to keep all our dogs, But if we can't find somewhere to keep them. I'm going to have to sell out before we move 1st of next month. Now that SUCKS!!!!!!

Mine is a track dog delux lol. Trailed 3+ miles in a 40 ac coon pen other night. Never barked up but she did tree one in the wild fri night. The 8min want catch her. Thats a fact. Big ol horn. Im just gonna tinker with her till fall I guess. Unless something better comes along.

Coon hunting is more than just my hobby. Its my sanity. I would be in a bad place if it wasnt for coon hunting and my family would vouch for that. I use to be a wild one boy im telling you. Stayed in a bunch of trouble all the time. God has blessed me and he will you too.
