If they haven't said it its because it hasn't been asked before. Not everything is in the rule book, the adviser or on the back of the card. Sometimes we have to go by common sense and precedent that have been set by UKC. Allen has already said earlier in the post that he agrees with mauser06. So we can call that official.

CIRCLE MAYBE...DELETE PROBALLY...MINUS NEVER...A hollow tree would be scored like hollow ground or a hollow pipe or colvert...

Plus the strike points and delete the tree points. If you would have started the shine time and yall seen the coon run out then i would say plus it both ways for seeing the coon then i would walk the dogs the way the coon ran and cut the dogs loose and score that coon again on a different tree!!

Posted by john Duemmer on 04-04-2014 01:30 PM:

This tree was just a big hollow trunk, with a hole at the bottom the size of a car door, you could stick your head in and see stars so the possibility to circle wasnt there on this one.
Suppose it had been a circle tree, or a tree that might have contained another coon on the outside.
3 dogs have been treed, they have stayed and been handled, shouldnt that tree be shined? And if you shine with the possibility of plussing or circleing the tree, shouldnt minus be a possibility?
Last spring i had a dog reach in a den and pull out a kitten, you could look in and see 3 more, would you be happy deleting that tree?
Dead coon aside, i think the tree should be shined and scored.
One guy gave the example of a coon up a sapling that the dogs shook out and killed so they deleted the tree points, suppose there had been 2 kits in that sapling and one stayed up, id bet that tree would have been plussed.

I think in my original scenario the dogs have to live with the bad break and take MINUS. unless theres another coon PLUS, or a hideing place CIRCLE.

Allen can set me straight.

John, I'd have to dig it up but it is UKC's position that the tree points are deleted and you would treat it like a coon caught. Similar to a situation where a coon is bayed on the ground. Any dog that is declared treed results in tree points deleted but plus strike points for coon caught.

Thanks alot Al, now i havta buy breakfast for a guy that eats like every meal is his last.
I still wanna shine that tree.

I guess this is one of the reasons...........

I don't care for comp hunting. If I listen to a dog trailing and hear it locate and start treeing and then witness it drag the coon out of a hole in the tree and then have to ask myself (or others) if I should delete it, plus it or minus it something definitely isn't right in my opinion. The dog did exactly what it was supposed to do but somehow man managed to screw that up and penalize the dog.

Its a good question and although i doubt it happens very often at least now people will know what to do. I do enjoy reading these scoring question posts with all the different answers........I can imagine how exciting it probably can get in the woods with 3 or 4 handlers.

this is the right call on this tree.

The only guys in the world that would delete it if they seen the coon get drug out is the one that is leading the cast by a small margerin and had last tree, it makes no spence to me at all to delete the tree points if you seen the dogs drag the dang thing out of the tree, now if they are on the ground fighting when you get there I understand deleting it because you have no tree to shine if they don't show you one

Plus strike, delete tree.

Have not be to a hunt in a while got to be to much BS just like this.Dog's tree get to tree they pull coon out of tree they get deleted tree bs.They are people run up score card's on way back to club, plus tree's with nothing in them,BUY CAST,Strike silent dog off other people dog's .Even went to a superstakes where a well know pkc man told us on a cast that a coon is irrevelant in pkc they score the dog for what he does.So it hard to beleave you would minus or delete anything for TREEING A COON.

We arrive at the tree which is hollow at the bottom, and before the dogs can be handled dog A pulls out a coon, they all pile on and kill it.
None of the dogs have left the tree, and the tree is now slick.
We know we can plus their strike points useing 3c.
How are their tree points scored?

Unless someone has changed it, it has always been handled same as a coon caught on the ground.
