-- Another Classification (SuperGrand) (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928364433)

Posted by JiM on 02-27-2014 11:35 PM:

This is one of those issues where you sit around the clubhouse after all the casts have left and the only ones left are the guys who AREN'T hunting and everyone thinks this SuperGrand idea is just great. Those guys out there hunting would probably boo it out of the building if you brought it up after everyone gets back. Why? Because by the time most of them have wallered through 8 wins to make Grand, they have had about enough of A)...hunting that same dog in 8 or more UKC hunts and are ready to move on to a new project, B)....totally burned out with at least one numb nuts on every cast that has no idea about the rules and swears up and down he is getting screwed every time his dog gets minused, C).....is ready to move on to $KC and chase a state race, truck hunt or hit the ProHunts. It's not that another level would hurt anything at all, it's more that you prolly couldn't find 10 guys who are actually out there pounding the hunts that would give a crap about another level of UKC.

Make it a requirement that each of the 5 wins come from a different club.

Posted by stevenbry86 on 02-28-2014 12:58 AM:

not me

i couldnt disagree anymore i love the ukc hunts and i know ill be disappointed when i get mine grnited because i like going to the hunts and visiting with other hunters who love the same sport i do not all guys at the club house are winey babys that cry when they get minus most of the guys i have been with will gladly take it and go on, i hope that they make a title after grnite itll just bring more ppl to a hunt i have seen several guys come to a hunt that had to go back home because they were the only gnight there not trying to pick a argument just saying itll only do good not bad

Amen Steven! Our guys ain't whining or griping either. We have a really good group of hunters not just in my club, but our surrounding clubs too! And we've talked about another classification in the woods, it's a win win situation. UKC, and everyone can't go wrong with it. Being realistic, we probably have 1 or 2 grand nitech cast during a hunt. Well, we'd probably have about the same with supergrand. Hey, I think it ain't nothing but positive, it dang sure ain't negative! Jmo

Let's take a step back. What about the good ol boys with the consistent cast winners that just can't get a break and beat the feeder bucket hounds high scores? Yes they are some guys that can finish em up quick and then some guys can't get a break. I think we need to start giving credit to cast winners before we move on to a super duper grand nite maximus title.

Still enough honest coondogs out there, wouldn't work all the time. Might even be to the out-of-townerz advantage????

Id be all for it. I just beleive their should be alot tougher rules on a super grand cast. That way their wouldnt be so many of them and it would make a handler and his dog work much harder to earn the title. Guys are complaining that grand dogs arent what they use to be. Well with a set of rules in place to make it all most impossible to super them out would bring that title name to a whole
New meaning. Jmo

Hoss, I totally agree! Make it to where a supergrand is just a notch below world champ! Buddy, that'll put some meaning back into a title. What are some of the ways to make a supergrand harder?
1. Only plus points wins
2. Circle, minus points gets you scratched.
3. 5 wins to supergrand
Anything else????

Bobby, I think its an excellent idea. UKC would definitely benefit from it. This could very well be what it takes to save the Night hunts.

Getting scratched for circle points is a bad idea. Around here the smart coon climb in the thick hemlocks and the only way you will see them is if you climb up there with them.

Posted by ed esposti on 02-28-2014 04:05 PM:

to make it Tougher have them hunt 3 hours, 200- points dog is scratched and need 5 overall wins. I think if they do make another category for "Super GrandNite" then it should be the toughest of them all and going on a 3 hour cast finishing with Plus Points and less than 200- minus i believe would be a good test.

Titles don't make the dog boys never did. Before I would step up they would have to be money involved.

In order for the dog to get the win it must have competion

Our dogs are naturally competitive. Another classification would help grands get even better. Iron sharpens iron!

Must have at least 400 plus to win your cast.
-200 gets you scratched.

I agree. Get out of the backyard and off the feeders. Win big or go home.

That's alright, I understand both of y'alls point. But I believe a majority of us would like another classification. I like hunting ukc, and were losing a lot of hunters to the $kc because once we make grand were done unless we go to the big hunts. A lot of us can't afford to go to the big hunts: jobs, money, family, time, etc. Our local clubs provide a close place to attain that next level. Lets face it, there is nothing wrong with it.

How about a perk that if you achieve this title, you are automatically entered into the zones of the world hunt for the remainder of the dogs life. No additional entry fees required.

Would that generate additional interest to participate???

to me that wouldn't be a good idea where I live there isn't 5 clubs with in 4 hrs of each other but that's jmo I would think the 3 hr - 200 would weed them out again jmo

It would make it ruff on some folks.
I just keep seeing the same people make grand after grand with little or no competition and never leave their own backyard club.

Posted by bobbycagle1 on 03-02-2014 07:55 AM:

There's a lot of good ways y'all have come up with to make it harder. I'm sure if the good folks up at UKC ever looked at making a super grand classification, they would do it right, and make it pretty tuff to attain it. I'm very serious, however, it really needs to be considered a notch below world champ. Something very very special to be awarded!
