-- How many do y'all kill (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928350410)
Did not realize you were a GW. The state of North Carolina?
What difference would that make in your opinion of us? But if it will ease your mind do the math. In a state where the limit is 10 per day per person, and this is how many of us that was hunting just how close to the limit was each of us coming? Not even close were we?

I will tell you this I hope one day I can get out there and travel around from state to state and hunt and enjoy my retirement. But right now Im working 7 days a week, if Im lucky enough to get a break in the midday I hit the woods behind my house .Im not jealous of someone that can do this maybe a little envious ..And Im not worried that you will kill them all Tim.I say go get them while you can.
I typically take 1 per half hour for a total of three orr four. I hunt a few times per week on public land and often hunt the same spots several times.

Now I'm as guilty as anybody, but usually it's just a matter of 3-4 or more squirrels in one tree etc. , and a bunch of shooters and several dogs in one hunt. Like I said I've been in my share and I have no objection to how many somebody takes in a hunt, but personally I believe too many big number hunts close togeather tend to make some dogs a little loose, and others want to get away from the "pack" and tree deeper than usual.

In the south - I doubt that hunter harvest would long term effect gray squirrel populations, except in small pockets of woods that got harvested heavy and that would be a short term effect.
Big tailgates are great if the squirrels are being processed, and I'm sure it makes for great conversation with a big group of guys hunting together. I, myself don't want very many to eat, and too lazy to clean em.
I'm not a dog trainer, but hunt with "quality" and not quantity" in mind when squeezing the trigger, using the squirrel as a dog reward, and not my reward. If I think the dog has done a good job on a particular tree, I will try and reward em for it - but not on every tree.
I prefer to hunt young dogs solo, and at the most 2 finished dogs together.
To me, it's all about having fun, making memories with family and friends, and the "DOG WORK".

Bubbas, even though they are no limits, and the season never ends up here on Sand Mountain, not a thing goes to waste.
Did you pound all that sand into a mountain?

I have to agree with Mark Morrisson. As long as it's within the law. I never kill over my limit and I never shoot more than 1 sq. or coon out of a tree. I guess a lot of that has come with age. If I hunt with 1 or more hunters we try to all get our limit. I never carry a gun if someone else is with me. I let them do the shooting. I cant shoot worth a darn anyway. lol I do enjoy the tailgate pictures though all though some of the game does appear excessive. The Good Book does say we should obey the laws of the land. Happy and safe hunting to all.
There was a time in my youth that everything hit the ground that the dogs treed. Ignorance about what it took to make a dog brought this about. I will still give a few to young dog when it starts but the finished dogs get very few through out the week as I enjoy training young dogs and want to keep a ample supply of squirrels around to work them on and besides I am tired of cleaning them! lol
I only kill one squirrel per tree, or at least I try lol. Sometimes my shooting is not that great. But for the most part I try to kill 4 or 5 on a hunt and I leave a bunch sitting. I eat em and I figure if I get to hunt 3 day a week with a average of 12 to 15 squirrels per week I will have plenty to eat. I don't have a problem with the guys who rackem up because I have done it several times myself and will do it again. If i have others with me other than my daughter then we will kill em long as we can tree em.
