well said it works the same way with my roosters and not all cross work the same but this cross with this pup worked great

Posted by Hazel Hill Blueticks on 12-10-2013 12:11 AM:

When crosses are made here they have the natural ability, but don't think a man can bring any female here and produce the same quality of pups. Just like I can't just cross with the hottest stud going to get natural, hard going, kick dirt in your face and get treed with the meat a high % of the time type of pups.

Hazel Hill

Where are all these hard going top blue dogs at. I've been looking for a hard going top blue dog for a while. I need to be pointed in the right direction. I'm not talking about a litter that's on the way that will produce the right kind. I want one that is ready to compete with the winners. I here people say the walkers are slick treeing idiots but they seem to stay in the winners circle. The majority of blues I see will not get by their selves and hunt super hard. I hear about plenty of em but don't see a whole lot.

We have two here, We gave away a littermate to our male at the time; We felt we really did not need another hard going male from the same cross. Paul Vaughn (Mad Dog Kennel) has a nice female he calls At A Girl. The whole litter made dogs that I have kept track of. My male's oldest pups are 14 months old. I have not been able to keep them do to the demand of the quality. I have references, one states he has been hunting for 30 + years and at 8 months this pups is the best coon dog I have ever owned. Just some good dogs with pedigrees that show generation after generation coon dog after coon dog.

DEC. list Bloodlines?

Back to coon tails. I guess I am looking for a natural, so I send them and wait for the pup to tree wild grease on a limb. 22 pairs of socks later I will have what I have. PUPS ability are normally over rated by me and a host of others, I just never learn.
Back to my point, we all want naturals BUT I want it on real wild coon.
PS, carefull I did not say pms.
Ever notice a handful of people next project is always something great? Really, Me think, they are setting the dog up for their next sale, maybe....

I have a question..... I NO Way do I want to affend anyone...
What is a reproducer????? I have seen several dogs, of different color, Blue, Red ,Black and White, Brindle, etc. That were Grand Nights, Night Champs etc, that ( I ) thought should be burried in shallow unmarked graves. I have seen several, of different color, that were just PR' that would beat the socks off some of the higher class dogs. I have seen some that maybe lack that little something extra, but tree coon consistently anyways. I have seen some that could not be beat on some nights, and other nights look like it was their first trip to the woods.
Seems to me what a reproducer is, may be viewed different by everyone's eye's. I'm not a breeder or a trainer, I know what I like to see in a dog, ( But that don't make me right ).
So I ask, What is a reproducer?

Hounds

Bauer. The best thing to keep in mind is to keep an open mind. Everybody that has a dog has the best dog. It should be this way. People are naturally going to be proud of there dog. You stated your new at this. An eight month old pup is a long way from being a coondog. He is going to have a lot of ups and downs. Don't be discouraged. You have to be willing and accept the fact that you just have to start over and move on. Do not get to caught up in the bragging that goes on with this board. There are folks that run the comp circuit and have proof in wins. There are folks that don't run the comp circuit that have proof from true dog men. Then there are folks that can't see past there lead and tell everyone theirs is the best there is. Sometimes you have to weed through the bull. If your happy with what you are feeding that is all that matters.
BTW, that is definitely a nice list Terry.

Call

Bauerr I will call you some time and we will talk dogs if you want. There's nothing like a good pup and the woods to put a smile on a Man's face. I still feel my heart race when a young hound opens for the first time and when he turns it over on the tree it's a great feeling and makes life good. What's your pup's name? bauer
Sounds like you are needing some advise for future use of your females that you may consider breeding. I will try and answer with what I know of and experienced. But first, from the above, have you not answered your own question, although Tom is not on this forum? Tom might be the one you should be taking your female to if you are happy with your young dog that you have out of him now.
The old Bullet dog was a great reproducer of good hounds.
Bullet II and others off of Bullet are also good reproducers. This is a good bloodline, for I have some of it. Several dogs on this forum are reproducing some good hounds for I have hunted with some of them and several young dogs off of them. If you get the time you should go hunt with some of the young dogs off the advertised studs and this way you can satisfy your own mind. I have bred twice, one of my finest females to Terry Tuckers Boomer dog and I can say he is a top reproducer of good hounds.
I hope no one thinks I am trying to promote Boomer for I am not. This is just my experience with crossing a female to him.

Bill, you are doing nothing but stating the truth. The numbers don't lie, Ole Boomer has reproduced multiple good hounds from multiple females. As my good friend the late James McClary told me, "if Terry & Ed keep & hold on to one for a while, I'll guarantee you its a reproducer". James never led me astray with any advice, & although I've never bred a female to Boomer, I don't think anyone would be hurting themselves by taking a female to him.

bauerr, sounds like you've got yourself a super nice young hound. As Bill mentioned, if what you have is making you smile & keeping you satisfied, I would go back to Mr. Massengale for some input.

Good Advice

Bauerr I believe the ones that told you to go back to the Man you got your young dog off of gave you good advice. If it's what you like stay with it. At least you could talk to him and get his opinion on what direction he would take. I took some of the posts I put on here off as they really never answered your question and I think some have. Good Luck. Dave
