This is sooooooo simple it's not funny anymore!

1. If your policy doesn't not meet the minimum qualifications, YOU ARE GOING TO GET A CANCELLATION NOTICE.......PERIOD!

2. If your company's policy does not meet the minimum qualifications......YOU ARE GOING TO GET A CANCELLATION NOTICE.......PERIOD!

3. If your company/business decides to bail on your benefits and put you out to pasture in the exchange land....YOU ARE GOING TO GET A CANCELLATION NOTICE.......PERIOD!

Now if your policy and/or your companies policy meets minimum qualifications, then you can keep your insurance or seek insurance through the exchanges.....which is exactly what Obama was referring to when he made that statement 3 years ago!

He sure failed to mention the particulars when he was buying votes in the Senate to pass this crap, or when he was running for re-election.

If you were trying to stay informed, you understood before, but now everyone understands what a screw job the ACA is, but it is too late to much about it, until next November that is.

It appears to me the PRO-CHOICE party is not so worried about our RIGHT TO CHOOSE when our choices do not line up with their agenda!!!!

it was not sold to us as that, it was sold if we liked our policy we could keep it and that is not the case. if i sold an investment the way obama sold obamacare i would loose my license to do business and this is the president of the united states doing the deception.

how many folks because of losing their policy can no longer see doctors that they have been seeing for decades, i already know of a few.

Actually it was sold as that. 3 years ago. This was covered and discussed at that time. It was made clear that you would be able to KEEP YOUR OWN HEALTH CARE PLAN if it still existed. You can.
One correction on Eric's comments, the insurance companies actually had the option to keep noncompliant plans running too. So long as they originated before the signing of PPACA. The insurance companies now fear that due to the more transparent marketplace and competitive market that they are better to cancel you and have you start with a new policy before you realize what a HORRIBLE plan you had. MOST OF ALL OF THE PEOPLE BEING CANCELED HAD JUNK PLANS AND WERE PAYING WAY MORE THAN THEY SHOULD HAVE. Even if the rates were low the plans were just so poor that they weren't worth it.

You are right Eric it is not funny anymore .
Not when an 85 year old woman or a man must purchase "MATERNITY CARE" as part of their minimum insurance coverage requirement as written into the Obamacare law.

Furthermore just as he has in the past he now passes the blame on all the cancellations due to "BAD APPLE" insurance companies.

Really?? Well established Blue Cross/ Blue Shield Is one of those companies sending out thousands of notices here in Pa.

I know this is factual not only from first hand accounts of folks who work in the healthcare industry but also from numerous media outlets. Here is an example:
from Consumer Reports magazine -- March 2012

[...]
Judith Goss, 48, of Macomb, Mich., believed that the Cigna plan she obtained through her job at the Talbots retail chain was “some type of insurance that would cover something.” When the store she worked at closed in January 2011, she even paid $65 a month to keep the coverage through COBRA.
“I was aware that it wasn’t a great plan, but I wasn’t concerned because I wasn’t sick,” she says. But in July 2011 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, at which point the policy’s annual limits of $1,000 a year for outpatient treatment and $2,000 for hospitalization became a huge problem. Facing a $30,000 hospital bill, she delayed treatment. “Finally my surgeon said, ‘Judy, you can’t wait anymore.’ While I was waiting my tumor became larger. It was 3 centimeters when they found it and 9 centimeters when they took it out.” After a double mastectomy, radiation treatments, and reconstructive surgery, Goss is taking the drug tamoxifen to prevent recurrence.

The Talbots Cigna Starbridge plan is one of many similar mini-med insurance products aimed at workers in industries such as retail, food service, and temporary staffing agencies. Their hallmark is extremely limited benefits, often, as with the Talbots plan, no more than a few thousand dollars a year. A Cigna promotional brochure touts the plans as “coverage for everyone” and reassures employers that they don’t have to contribute to the cost of the coverage if they don’t want to.
[…]

I wish I knew how to bold things. But I don't, so go back and read that part about the "annual limit of $1,000 a year for outpatient treatment and $2,000 for hospitalization".
This woman is paying nearly 800$ per year and the most she can get back is 3000$ in any year. That is junk insurance. Just about every insurer offers a few junk plans because they know there are consumers who want to buy junk. It gives them peace of mind. Then when they need it they are left to die or go bankrupt.
One of the huge advantages of Obamacare that I have talked about before is the requirement that all policies have a standard 4 page summary that explains in PLAIN ENGLISH what the benefits/caps/limits are. Even though some of these policies could have been grandfathered in, once consumers realize how junky the policy was they will never want to do business with that insurer again. And they will be able to use this standardized summary to do this. Many of those high deductible junk policies paid back only 60-70 cents on the dollar. They now must reach the threshold of 80% payback. SO even though these might be grandfathered in, once you can do an "apples to apples" comparison you would no longer want that policy.

Pat, why would an 85 year old person be buying insurance? Wouldn't it be provided for them under Medicare/Medicaid?

Junk insurance can be bought from otherwise reputable companies. These are "bad apple" policies, not necessarily bad apple insurers. If you want to know more about that check out the Consumer Reports link.

Many older Americans purchase policies on their own as a supplement to their Medicare.
And regaurdless of age & gender you pay for maternity care ...If people wanted to purchase these as you call them "bad apple"plans & keep them that's their business but people who had top of the line insurance , the so called "cadillac plans"are also being dropped every policy in the market covers the exact same things reguardless of need, health condition , age the only diffence is the cost of out of pocket , co-pays & deductibles. And the more money you make the more it will cost you .
Our president & his administration lied repeatedly & continue to do so they have no reguard for the American people -their agenda is all that matters . This ACA thing has blown up in their face . Many in their own party are pretending to distance themselves as much as possible. Aside from people being dropped ,cost skyrocketing , & the exchanges being a disaster to get signed up on they pose a serious risk to your personal information . Even Medicaid & Medicare are concerned that people signing up on the exchanges could have their personal info stolen.

There are retired persons that still get co-insurance through their former employer. In order for the insurance plan to meet the new standards the policy needs to be rewritten to meet the new requirements at increased costs to the policy holder. Also there is medigap or Medicare advantage plans.
Now remember Medicare charges around 100.00 per month now plus the costs of the "gap" insurance you need to purchase to cover costs medicare will not pay.
Everyone thinks Medicare is the great retirement insurance plan.IT IS GARBAGE until you purchase supplemental insurance to fill in the gaps medicare DOES NOT PAY. That is why an 85 year old needs another insurance plan.
I have had first hand experience from caring for and helping family and friends through finances because they were on medicare.

65.00 for a Cobra plan.WOW!!No wonder she had virtually no coverage.Cobra's usually run over 500.00 and into the thousands per month if you want the same coverage you had while working.

Medicare’s administrative costs were $8 billion in 2011, or 1.4 percent of total Medicare spending of $549 billion that year. Those figures come from the latest annual report of the Medicare trustees, prepared by OACT (Office of the Actuary within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services)
