that would sure chainge the way i looked at both hounds
I figure every hound i follow should atleast make me think he has a coon every time even if he dosent ! 70 trees out of a houndred means iv walked to 30 trees in the briars and cain breaks and bambo thickets for nothing ! the more you look at it like that the worse 70 percent sounds thats pretty bad

Can I say AMEN!!! And one more time .... AMEN!!

I have come to find when talking about accuracy, most folks are counting a den tree as a coon seen, which I totally disagree with!

I agree with you on the 70% thing, I have seen very few older seasoned dogs that even come close to that, let alone a young dog that is looking to get treed. I would be tickled to death to have a 2 out of 3 model (66%).

John, if that young dog #1 is showing you a coon on the outside of 7 out of 10 trees you are a blessed man!

Man it sure is nice to live in a country where we all can have an opinion and no one gets to have the end all answer.

I'm not sure who sounds the most illogical. The person that thinks all dens are empty or the person that thinks all dens have a coon, (though I have not actually heard anybody say that one) It just seems to be implied over and over again.

Can we agree that a den should not count for or against the dog you are evaluating, or in this case ridiculing?

Give me that young hound ( under two years old) that is treeing 100% of every track it opens on, and has a coon or a den tree on 70% of those trees made. 100% of the time this dog is fairly efficient.

For me the young dog that is only treeing on 60% of the tracks it is opening on, simply doesn't have enough tree dog in it (for me). This dog is leaving 15 to 30 percent of the coons it is treeing, and for me that is a (cardinal) sin. DO NOT LEAVE once you have treed a coon.

When a dog gets treed you have three options. You can catch them and go home, you can scold them and send them on, or you can reward them for a job well done.

For that dog that is only treeing 60 % of its tracks, You can listen to it run 40% of the time and never get treed, causing you to either miss a lot of much needed sleep, or you can do the above mentioned things (but only 60% of the time you are out hunting.) For me this dog is only 100% efficient 60% of the time.

And by the way, I don't count dens as a negative outcome. As I like to hear a dog run and tree, but I will agree it is much more fun when you see a coon at the top, and not a patch of grapes or persimmons, LOL!! Every time I walk to a den tree, I walk away thinking & telling my hound he/she needs to learn how to track faster so that ole coon doesn't have time to get to a den. Good Hunting to All, Some seasons are in but many more are just around the corner. Enjoy Gods most wonderful masterpiece and be safe doing so.

If that were the cause we would all change our ways of breeding, and culling.LOL.Id say most hunt a lot more with the leaves off than on.So we all truly know how accurate our hounds are Weither we admit it to the public or not is another story.

there use to be a monkey dwn in miss. that would climb and
shoot out coon.now me and that monkey fill about the same
i hate walking to a lying dog.30% -

[B]most people think when a dog trees slick it was short on finishing the track ,, when in fact the majority of them on many of their slick trees have ran the track backwards to a tree.

Count 1\2 of those dens as back tracks toe cutter. Run one the wrong way you will walk to a lot of dens
imho

My time that I've been coon hunting dog number 2 will be a winner, just give dog number 2 time to grow up,dog #1 might get better if corrected but most of the time dog #1 will be a tree crazy idiot and draw lot's of minus.

I would venture to say, as these kittens split up, and get more to a full grown size, dog # 2 will start to look a lot better.
Dog #1 will probably look best through the summer months, and will be tough to beat. While dog #2 will look better in tough conditions.
I personally think your looking at it the wrong way. Rather then which dog is better, I would look at it like which type of dog do I prefer? No one can answer that for you.

As this forum shows, some prefer more of an action packed type hound, other prefer the higher accuracy.
I'm in a similar situation, I appreciate both and am glad there both not the same. But I do wish I could put them together under one collar, and have a happy medium between the two.
