I'm one of the 3 guys that was fortunate enough to be able to feed and hunt Cube for a period of time. I had Cube here for 3 months and really enjoyed him. He isn't perfect but I'm still trying to figure out how a hound can fit that much talent in a 30lb body! LOL! I seen Cube tree coon so fast I didn't have time to shut the tailgate or put in a fresh wad of tobacco. Only to recast him and see him get hooked 900 yards deeper with a coon before I could finish taking a piss.
I don't know how anyone could not like the Cube dog. Did he frustrate me a few nights, you're darn right. He's a smart little critter that at times liked to out smart me! He was a blast to hunt and I can't help but smile when I watch reruns of Tailgate Adventures with episodes of Cube. When that little bugger comes on the wood, you can't help but grin, but the camera doesn't do him justice like cutting him loose in your own country and watching him work.
Coonhound magazines and this website are full of male coonhounds being offered at stud. There are a lot to choose from, but I can't think of a single one more deserving to be bred than Oak Ridge Clover Cubed. He is bred up tight making him the perfect candidate for linebreeding or outcrossing.

Thanks Marc....I kinda like him for all the reasons you mentioned. I've never said he was perfect...but he's about as nice as what anybody is leading around, and he's a blast to own and hunt.

I think I hunted with the Zoey dog in that pedigree...pretty nice outfit...made me want a dog out of Bull.....so I got one!

I don't have any Thorn females of breeding age, but have a litter of pups on the ground ready to go now...all females!

For those that have inquired, I have a male that is a half brother to Cube, out of Joker and a Thunder's Wild Clyde female. He is a NT CH with a win or two towards grand.

I got him back a few months ago, and I have no fewer than three young dogs that I'm trying to keep hunted, so he is setting in the kennel.

He can be bought. Notice that I did not say he is on sale...he can be bought.

Marc Brogan hunted with this dog a couple of years ago, and he can speak to the fact that he will get gone, get hooked, and is good about having a coon.

If I don't sell him, and I don't end up falling in love with one of the pups/young dogs I'm hunting...I'll finish him to Grand and double his price tag this spring.

I sold this dog for $3500.00 two years ago...that is how much I think of him. Hate to see him wasted right now.....

Have a nice little 18 month old Cube female in raging heat.....

She does this to me every year during the best of coon season. Really sets her back.

She is out of Cube and my Powder female. A good buddy of mine has a male out of Joker and my old Julie female. I was thinking the other day that if I were to breed her to that male, that would be double Joker, and would be all of my favorite dogs in one! Might have to make that cross in the spring.

oakridge coonhounds

Although my pups are out of a different sire (Joe's Thorn Dog), i have to say this.....when i went to pick my male pup up there was a small female out of same litter running around just full of fire. My wife fell in love with that little pup. Joe had already in my eyes bent over backwards working with me on the male pup considering it was the only one in the litter and i think he wanted to keep him. As we set there and discussed dogs and looked at his stock, my wife was way back yonder still playing with that little feisty female. When it came time to leave, Joe said "take her with ya." For free. Now this may not mean much to some , it meant alot to my wife and myself. Both of these pups ran loose for awhile when i got them home. but now they have to be penned up. You cant leave them out without them treeing our cats or stretching them apart like a accordian. they are smart and super gamey. Always searching and on the move.

I have to beleive that a man who raises and hunts his own stock believes in what he is raising. I have heard alot of good things about his dogs on here and from others, I dont think you can go wrong with pups out of any of Joe's stock. From what ive seen so far from my pups, (especially the free one!..) lol.....they show everything a man could ask for so far.

Thanks for all your effort in the process of getting these pups.

Thanks for the kind words Andrew....shoot you didn't cause me any heartburn...you actually showed up to get the pup you said you wanted...that is more than 50% of the folks that I talk to in a weeks time do!

That little runt female is gonna be special. I saw your wife's eyes light up when she saw her, and then when she barked at us all...I knew that there was no way you should go home without her in tow.

I enjoy these ole dogs...and I get about as big a kick out of someone taking a pup home and making it "their" dog as raising one myself. I appreciate the updates, and wish I could get more. Nothing is more depressing to a breeder than to have someone come and pick a pup, and that is the last you hear about it....always wondering what ever happened to the pup.

I've got plans for a litter this next spring that includes Thorn and a very special female. It's a repeat cross that worked out wonderful the first time....so I'll be keeping a male out of that cross, since you spoke for the only male in this litter.

Enjoy them, send pictures, and help me celebrate another breeding success.....

The redbone was just a pup on her second or third night in the woods.....pretty much didn't have a clue that coon exist!

Joe, how often does Cube throw his blue eye/s?
I have some real nice Wild bred dogs. Thus far no blue eyes. But I have a lot of ticking showing up. I like he doesn't have the ticking, but I don't want a bunch of blue eyes. I'm ure you see it more when the breeding gets tight. What about on outtcrosses.

I am wanting to keep my brains, cold nose, accuracy and loud mouths. But I'd like to bring down the size and clean up some ticks.

Cassandra,

The blue eye can be traced back to Stylish Queen. Most of the Wild Clover dogs don't have her back "in there", so that is why you don't get blue eyes.

The blue eye gene is recessive, so it takes two copies of it to produce a blue eye. So a true outcross would very rarely produce blue eyes. Now just becuase you don't see the blue eye gene expressed does not mean your dogs are not "carriers" of that gene. So I suppose that the chance does exist, but it would be far less probable with an outcross than me breeding to half sisters

Yea it doesn't seem that it is too common.

My old bitch is heavy bred on old Queen. But my newer stuff is mostly old Casey/Clover and I have some that are Patch bred.

Never gotten any blue eyes out of my old gal. But never bred her on anything heavy Queen. I get rear dewclaws every litter though, and she doesn't have them.
