maybe at this date n time they cant tell you by dna if a dog has tree genes in there but it could be done. just like in cattle. they can tell u way more than size color and things of that nature. hundreds more things about each one. milk, fat,protien,conformation,cell counts,genetic defects,on and on and on and on.

it takes lots of money. will it happen? idk?
but it can be done and probbally will in time.

frozen seamen was done with cattle. now with dogs.

if n when it happens I will be lineing up my pups for there swab checks.

When I posted this thread I wasn't sure if it would generate any response at all. It was and still is a question in this old mans mind. I to have had hounds for about fifty years -that doesn't make me an expert on anything- but does let me speak from the voice of experience with tree dogs. I have thought for many years that if you can train any hound to tree why then don't they all tree through good sound training. The tangible part is not the type tree bark, but that they tree. I suggest that it was a recessive gene in the early fox hounds. Some liked it , and some didn't, consequently, the breeding for different traits began; tree dogs or running dogs. I believe genetics plays a part in virtually every part of an animal or plant. According to Robinson and other authors the first study of genetics was about peas. But I'm suggesting that tree dogs have a gene or multipliers, or multiple genes that make them look up and bark when others will keep looking for the track going somewhere else. I'm pretty sure we've all seen that numerous times and wondered about it.

odviously they cant help u train the pup an bring these triats to the table. why work with a pup that didn't inherit the treeing triat?

I do think most of us believe treeing is bred in them? it's there or it aint?
