-- What makes a dog a consistant big WINNER (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928339960)
take a GREAT dog and handler to total crap spots all night....
take a good solid dog to GREAT coon treeing spots all night...
the good dog will come back with the highest score...
dont care what anyone says...there IS luck...luck of who is guiding if nothing else...
yep a great dog will get out there and tree a coon....but if it takes you an hour to get to that tree (come hunt with me on a January night when most guys stay at home if you say thats not practical for it to take an hour to get to a tree) that GREAT dog just wont be able to put up the points the dogs do in thicker than flea coon woods that pop up trees...
it ALL has to come together...great dog....great handler that knows that dog...a little luck of the draw on the cast and guide...and the wins come...
thats another good example of luck....draw a cast with a couple guys out to cut your throat...striking in on babbles, pitching their dog and getting away with it etc etc...all ways we KNOW guys can cheat and get away with it...and the guy striking in on babbles is taking first strike all nite then another jack wagon pitches his me-tooing pot licker on the GREAT dogs locator even though its not at the tree but he knows it WILL be...the GREAT dog is getting cheated out of 50 tree points and 25 strike points each drop...
i honestly dont know how some guys and some dogs can get it done year after year..hunt after hunt...
i thought maybe that stuff only happened around here...then went to Walker Days and had an interesting cast there at my first big hunt experience...the guide and judge had one thing on his mind...that was ELIMINATING his competition...saddest thing was that he didnt need too....he really had a nice dog...i was the last to go and only went because he wouldnt circle ANYTHING of mine..then it got to just us 2 and he should had to circle anything i said...well he told me if i wanted to circle a tree we were going back to the club and the time just wouldnt allow for it so i had to take nonsense...i will admit it was hard not to knock him out when he circled his own trees and minused mine...
