Took the boys out last night. Unfortunately, with the holidays here and traveling, we haven't hunted for over a week. They still managed to pull off a good night.
First tree, no coon seen, but there was a big hollow. I wasn't 100% convinced they were right, so I cut them off the that tree. They must have been right because they went 450 yds before striking again. At 967 yds in they treed what appeared to be a big ole boar. We let him live to be treed another night.

Leroy is a fine hound and a pleasure to follow through the timber. Classy tree dog with a good carrying voice. When he's cut loose, more times than not, you'll find him under a coon. Mathew is a good guy too, he'll shoot you straight. Can't go wrong bringing your female to ol Leroy.

Thanks for the compliments Travis. We'll get together again sometime soon.

The ole man has done a fine job training his grandson. I really enjoy hunting these 2 together. They lead like a team of mules. Lol. They pushed this track a 1/2 mile through a swamp. When it hit high ground they made him climb in a hurry. I stopped several times on the walk in, just to listen to them tree.

Posted by WillieBT on 03-04-2014 12:37 PM:

Went out last light right after the snow stopped falling. It was 16 degrees. Apparently, the coons weren't moving much because we can normally strike within 400 yds. Not last night, at .99 miles, Leroy located and fell treed. Got to the tree and it was a big den. Saw fresh coon tracks coming in to the tree, but none leaving.

Bud did the same thing on a different tree in that area.

Grimes

Is Leroy's dad Rambo still alive, or been bred recently? I'm looking for a Heavy Grimes bred female for down the road. Has Leroy been bred to any Grimes females? Thanks. Matt.

Grimes

Thanks for all the replies. I got Slowpoke thats making a really nice hound. I have no dought he will be titled out by fall. Just looking down the road some at what crosses are possible. As y'all know its slim pickings when you own the male.

Thanks for everyone's assistance with the questions. I was a little slow replying. Matt I've been looking to breed a heavy Grimes female to Leroy. Like you said they are tough to find. If someone was to take Charles up on his offer they wouldn't regret it. Bo has given me a couple of nice hounds.
Wormy it's good to hear from ya. Thanks for the compliment on Bud. He still has some maturing to do but I'm confident he is making a nice one. He is hard, loud on the wood tree dog.
Charles that tree looks a huge den but you know that's twice I've seen the coon on the outside in that same tree. I'm glad you got the experience in person and Boo had the coon.

We had a good hunt last night. Turned loose about 15 minutes before dark. 1st tree 450 yds to a den, 2nd tree 375 yds coon seen, 3rd tree 720 yds coon seen. I got a little exercise in the process.
