instead of that, why not just make it where it will lay on an angle across your back and the strap is across your chest. much like you would put the leash while the dog is running. then you just reach over your shoulder and pull the gun out of the scabbard. that way you wont get the jokes about the dog doing the dirty work and it wont fall off your shoulder.

Carry the dog leash? I just keep it on the dog at all times so its easier to tie him off at the tree, when he gets treed.

I really like the idea of the scabbard but I'm not sure of the game bag, he might be wanting to still chew on the coons instead of going hunting for another one. When you have the finished product of the scabbard I'd like to order one.

even when he is hunting? you leave it on him??? that when I was referring to. while the dog is out hunting and you are waiting for the dog to tree. carrying it crossways over your torso until you get to dog. in the same manner you could put the scabbard on your back and reach over shoulder to grab the stock of the gun.

I'm new to coon hunting and have been looking for a better way to transport my rifle. I hate carrying it with a sling because it always wants to slide off my shoulder. I am working on a prototype solution and am looking for feedback if anyone else has this problem and what solution you have come up with. Right now, I am making a rifle scabbard to attach to my dog's back so that when they tree, my rifle is always where they are. I don't keep the rifle loaded and only put bullets in it when I am ready to shoot the coon. I've made a picture below just for reference. My rifle only weighs a few pounds and I don't have a scope on it so if it gets bounced around it won't affect my sights. I can't wait to get this thing fully done and then try it out.

The obvious next step is to create a pistol mounted on a hard hat that the dog can wear through the woods.

Posted by Griffith on 01-15-2014 11:31 PM:

Just run a string from the trigger to the dogs tail. When he or she gets on the wood the pistol will fire, quickly and humanly dispatching the animal. It's fool proof.

Are you a scientist? Brilliant

Believe it or not I am no scientist. I currently clean bathrooms at McDonald's but I hope to be promoted to head fry cook very soon

You should be promoted asap. At least have you monitor the play area

Dog Accesssory

Can you add a cup holder. Sometimes I'm real thirsty when I get to the tree. It could be the Deluxe Model.

Could someone just point me to a good coonhunting video game , I'm getting a little old anyway .

Posted by Rustic Kennels on 01-18-2014 06:34 PM:

I do believe that dog needs to have a cap light as well so he can shine the coon for you when you shoot it out.

Posted by Littletown on 01-18-2014 11:15 PM:

Can I just buy the dog ?

Posted by steedes on 01-19-2014 05:09 AM:

A cap light with a bright enough light to find a coon in a slick tree would be an added feature
